    1. Louden/Copple from Clark County, IN
    2. The 4 June 1886 Jefferson Evening News: “S. A. Douglas Louden, formerly of Bethlehem Township, who died recently in Kansas, left a valuable pre-emption claim of 160 acres of land in that state and a $125 interest in New Washington. An uncle of the deceased, under the name of Jones, took out letters of administration. Mrs. Albert Copple, mother of Louden, of Washington township, who is the only heir to the estate will contest the right of Jones to administer the estate.” I have Isabelle "Bell" Francis Louden married to Albert Copple. Isabelle is the daughter of Hiram Louden. All of these people are from Clark County, Indiana. I know that Hiram had a grandson named Stephen, but if Isabelle is his mother he must have been born out of wedlock. I would appreciate any information on Isabelle or Stephen/S. A. Douglas Louden. I don't know why he would have been in Kansas. If anyone is interested in looking at public records regarding the estate of Douglas Louden, I would be willing to pay for costs and research time. 3. The year 1904 Maybe this will boggle your mind, I know it did mine! The year is 1904. One hundred and one years ago. What a difference a century makes! Here are some of the U.S. statistics for 1904: The average life expectancy in the U.S. was 47 years. Only 14 percent of the homes in the U.S. had a bathtub. Only 8 percent of the homes had a telephone. A three-minute call from Denver to New York City cost eleven dollars. There were only 8,000 cars in the U.S., and only 144 miles of paved roads. The maximum speed limit in most cities was 10 mph. Alabama, Mississippi, Iowa, and Tennessee were each more heavily populated than California. With a mere 1.4 million residents, California was only the 21st most populous state in the Union. The tallest structure in the world was the Eiffel Tower! The average wage in the U.S. was 22 cents an hour. The average U.S. worker made between $200 and $400 per year. A competent accountant could expect to earn $2000 per year, a dentist $2,500 per year, a veterinarian between $1,500 and $4,000 per year. A mechanical engineer about $5,000 per year. More than 95 percent of all births in the U.S. took place at home. Ninety percent of all U.S. physicians had no college education. Instead, they attended medical schools, many of which were condemned in the press and by the government as "substandard." Sugar cost four cents a pound. Eggs were fourteen cents a dozen. Coffee was fifteen cents a pound. Most women only washed their hair once a month, and used borax or egg yolks for shampoo. Canada passed a law prohibiting poor people from entering the country for any reason. The five leading causes of death in the U.S. were: 1. Pneumonia and influenza 2. Tuberculosis 3. Diarrhea 4. Heart disease 5. Stroke The American flag had 45 stars. Arizona, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Hawaii, and Alaska hadn't been admitted to the Union yet. The population of Las Vegas, Nevada, was 30!!! Crossword puzzles, canned beer, and iced tea hadn't been invented. There was no Mother's Day or Father's Day. Two of 10 U.S. adults couldn't read or write. Only 6 percent of all Americans had graduated high school. Marijuana, heroin, and morphine were all available over the counter at corner drugstores. According to one pharmacist, "Heroin clears the complexion, gives buoyancy to the mind, regulates the stomach and bowels, and is, in fact, a perfect guardian of health." (Shocking!) Eighteen percent of households in the U.S. had at least one full-time servant or domestic. There were only about 230 reported murders in the entire U.S. And I forwarded this from someone else without typing it myself, and sent it to you in a matter of seconds! Try to imagine what it may be like in another 100 years .. it staggers the mind

    1. Nannie "Nancy" A. Steele (Steel) Johnson
    2. T. J. Rollings
    3. I am trying to locate anyone with information on Nannie "Nancy" A. Steele Johnson. I have her in the Woodbine Precinct with her parents in the 1900 and 1910 Whitley Co. Census records. She may have already been married to Jess Johnson in 1920 but details on many things about her are quite sketchy. Here is what I know about her. Nannie A. Steele was born about Feb 1887. She married Jess Johnson sometime between 1916 and 1921 we are supposing. We have found Jess living with his son Harvey Johnson in the 1920 Whitley Co., KY Census. He is listed as married but there is no wife living with him. Nannie was his third (?) wife and his second wife, Mary Adeline Cox, had passed away in 1916. Nannie had three children: Annie Mae Johnson b.1921 Thomas Johnson b.1923 Gabriel Henry Johnson b.1925 Nannie developed tuberculosis and passed away at the home of Roy and Martha Decker where she'd been staying during her illness. My grandmother was with her when she passed away but was young so we have a best guess of about 1927 for a year of Nannie's death. I am hoping to find her wereabouts in the 1920 census or any other information regarding her other than what is above. Have been unable to find death certificate for Nannie A. Steele Johnson. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. TJ Reeves

I am interested in learning who his father was that was born in MO. In 1920 he was listed as a boarder. He was listed born in TN. I could not find him listed on any other census in Heritage Quest search in any state. With any variant of the Murrell spelling I could think up. Pat Mata pjmata@cox.net

    1. Alexander and Mary Williamson
    2. Christopher Williamson
    3. I'm a descendant of Alexander and Mary Williamson. They lived is Breckenridge County, KY in the 1830s. I've seen documents and information on line naming Mary, Mary Potter Williamson and Mary Potter Martin Williamson. I'm not sure if my cousins are certain about the accuracy of the Potter and Martin names in relation to Mary. There was a Marmaduke Williamson living in the vicinity at the same time. I'm wondering if he was Alexander's father, brother or cousin? There was a Joseph Ball who surveyed the 1600 acres that belonged to Alexander and Mary. I'm curious about if Joseph Ball was from the same line as Mary Ball Washington? The property was first granted to Jacob Frank. Id' like to learn as much as possible about the history of the people who were connected to the property. If there are descendants of any of these people who have any knowledge reading this, I'd really appreciate a response. Thanks!
