    3. Unless you require a certified copy; KY Death Certificates are available on microfilm for the years 1911 - 1954. The rolls are available at many libraries and archives in KY and other states. Here in Evansville, IN at Willard Library we have all of the available microfilm and order each new release. After 1955 to present would be available through the link below: http://chfs.ky.gov/ You may search the online index for these and there is a Kentucky Vital Records Project online to help find those who have been indexed under a misspelling of their name. I have links to both of those sites on my webpage, listed below. http://www.genealogy-resources.net/kyrec/kydeathcert1.htm Regards, Virginia L. 3. Someone reminded me that I had forgotten to include links to sites dealing with our furry and feathered pets and friends. Sooo, please cut and paste this into your browser.... it is not just the humans who are suffering and dying. http://news.bestfriends.org/index.cfm?page=specialreports&mode=cat&catid=040 61773-BDB9-396E-9001EF6EC01318A4 Aside from Best Friends (above), aspca.org, alleycatallies.org, hsus.org, and several other sites are collecting for the animals (pets and wild) and sending teams to rescue and retrieve. Two HSCI investigators are certified Emergency Animal Rescue Service volunteers (www.ears.org) which is through United Animal Nations, and they may soon be dispatched! But all costs must be covered by donations. Many people are giving to the Red Cross, but the Red Cross is not allowing animals in it's facilities...it is solely focused on the people. So we have to support these other groups as well!

    3. Hi all, I know how hard it is to lose a parent. I try to find a way to honor their legacy. Here is a simple one that I thought you might be interested in . Please feel free to share this with others you know. I am including a call for submission request. This is an anthology. It is along the lines of Chicken Soup, A Cup of Comfort or many other similar series of books. The stories are meant to be inspirational. Gerry has a whole series of books planned. I had a story published in his last book about fathers. All of the stories accepted are about deceased members, hence the title. You give up all rights, but after a point I am sure he would negotiate a reprint. This is a legit group. Please check them out. There will be many opportunities for stories in the future. I'll keep you posted as he notifies me. Dara Dara, We are now accepting submission requests for "Our Mothers Who Art In Heaven". Please refer you and your fellow writers to: http://murak.blogs.com/ourfatherswhoartinheaven/2005/08/how_to_submit_y.html To see a sample "Our Mothers Who Art In Heaven" story, (written by my wife) please visit: http://www.murak.blogs.com/ourmotherswhoartinheaven Thank you for your interest. 1. STEWART,James(age 62) and Mildred(age 58)-Spencer Co,KY 1850
    2. I am looking for any information on James STEWART(born 1788 VA) and his wife Mildred (born 1792 VA) who were listed in the Spencer Co,KY 1850 Census with children (?) Harriet (age 17 KY) and Alexander (age 12 KY). Harriet was born 8 July 1833 in Kentucky and about 1854 married Joseph POULTER in Brown Co,Indiana. Their son Joseph Randall POULTER was my great-great grandfather. In the 1850 Census in Spencer Co,KY living next door to James and Mildred was an Anderson STEWART age 32,his wife Nancy age 28, and their daughter Lucy Ann. I thought this might be another son or maybe a nephew as there is another STEWART (Charles age 54) listed in same census. Are James and Charles brothers? Names of some of Charles children were,Uriah,Harriet,James P,and Tabitha. I think there may have been one or two more, but I can't recall the names at this time. I am hoping to find out where this group came from in Virginia. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Cindy Fregoe

    1. GIST
    2. Nell Your announcement of a Pennington family reunion mentioned the "GIST" surname. According to SOUTHWEST LOUISIANA RECORDS by Rev. Donald J.Hebert: KING, Valentine - Esquire attorney and counsellor at Law from Washington County, Kentucky (son of John Edward KING & Sarah GIST) married 15 Jan. 1818 Nancy KING of New Orleans (daughter of George KING & Amelia JEUNE [LEJEUNE]) (St. Landry Parish Court House, Opelousas, Louisiana: Marriage Record #2) I am trying to learn the names of the parents of Sarah GIST and John Edward KING, and any other history I can find. George King (son of William KING and Lettice/Letitia BLAND) was a comtemporary and aquainance of my 4th great grandfather, John CLOSE. Both traveled from Nelson County, Breckinridge County, or Washington County, Kentucky and were in New Orleans, Louisiana by 1802 and were in St. Landry Parish, Louisiana by 1805. 3. ------ Forwarded Message From: Vivian Shatley <eojcbor@seidata.com> Date: Thu, 11 Aug 2005 07:11:01 -0600 To: KENTUCKIANA-L@rootsweb.com Subject: {not a subscriber} Louisville Orphanage(s) - 1900-1910 I am searching for the parents of my grandmother (Lillian Hammond) and the following information has been obtained. Perhaps this will help on the question of the Orphanages and MAYBE someone will read this and have the answer to my puzzle: Twelfth Census of the United States (taken on June 5, 1900) shows a Lillian Hammond (white, female, age 17 - born 1883 {date wrong? 1888 is correct} in Kentucky as a servant in a home in Jefferson Co., Mag. Dist 5, 1208 Morton Ave., Louisville. It further shows her as "enumerated with Unnamed Institution" and "relationship to above Servant". (1124 Norton Avenue, Louisville, Ky. Sister Susan - Head Deaconess - Occupation. House is free of Mortgages) The information within the parenthesis appears on a form - added by the person providing the copy of the form as having been included in the county files when I received them. Thirteenth Census of the United States (1910) shows Lillian Hammond enumerated in the "Church Home and Infirmary" on Morton Avenue in Louisville, KY. She indicates she was born in Kentucky but indicates her father was born in Delaware and her mother born in Kentucky. She is listed as a servant at the institution; however, her relationship to the "Matron" (head of household) is "Officer" and not Inmate as the majority of people enumerated were identified. There are 10 other individuals listed as "Officer". I wrote to the Louisville Free Public Library, 4th & York Streets, Louisville, KY 40203 in March 1996 asking for any information on Lillian Evelyn Hammond (McDonald) and the location of the Church Home Infirmary in 1912 and if it still exists and did it still have the same name. The following is the answer received (written on the bottom of my own letter): "Sue - - - My guess is the Episcopal Church Home . . . . Norton Avenue., Louisville, KY 40202. It moved to Lynda 20 or 25 years ago. The Episcopal Church Home, 1201 Lynda Lane, Louisville, KY 40202. Phone 502-425-8840. Contact Lynn Haley. Orphanage of The Good Shepherd was at 1124 Norton Ave. Church Home and Infirmary at 1208 Norton Avenue. Neither still exist. I've asked the former Episcopal Bishop, now retired, (Bishop Marnion) and this is what he remembered. I urge you to contact the Episcopal Home at the address given." I did call the Episcopal Church Home and although Lynn Haley was not there any longer, I did speak to a woman who informed me they do not have records of individuals residing at the home - they have either been lost or destroyed. What records have survived are the business records - accounts paid and received, repairs made to the building, etc. and no information on any individual. I hope this helps someone - and maybe it will give me a clue to resolving my problem!!
