Hi BJGFL, I would very much like to learn more about the Withers that you are working on. My line starts with Samuel Witter in Breckenridge and this may very well be him with a different spelling. Will you share with me what you have so I can see if there is a tie? Thank you. Hi all! I have updated the database at the Denton family genealogy site this weekend. There are over 14,000 folks there now. I also added the following gedcoms which can be downloaded if you are interested: Denton, Plumlee, Moore, Hunt, Chastain. These gedcoms are all related families to the Dentons. Most of the information is compiled from many sources, so I appreciate all corrections and additions. The url is: http://www.acun.com/dentons Blessings! Sue Montgomery-Cook

Does anybody on the list have ancestors/cousins who served in the Union's Fifteenth Kentucky Infantry during the Civil War? The Fifteenth was organized in the area we're all interested in in the fall of 1861, with Breckinridge, Hardin, Jefferson and Meade Counties all heavily represented. They fought through the next four years, including at Perryville, Stones River, Chickamauga, and the Atlanta campaign, mustering out in early 1865. I've already tracked down family of 25 members, but am looking for more in connection with revising a book on the regiment. I'm interested in photographs, letters, diaries -- any kind of information at all about members of the regiment. Kirk Jenkins

Hi everyone! Just wanted to let you all know that I have added a few sections to Kentuckiana. Births, Deaths, Marriages, Family Pages links, and Family Group Sheets. If you have some births, deaths, marriages, etc. in your records please send them to me for posting! I'll be taking these one at a time so it'll be a while for the page to fill up! If you have them, I would also love to have family group sheets for posting! I still have quite a few that were donated to me to post, plus a few more of my own, but I would love for you all to send more! :-) If I haven't included your link on the Kentuckiana Family links page, please send it to me. These were all that I was able to find. Thanks everyone, for making this list the most enjoyable I'm on! You're all so great! You'd think with over 400 people on the lsit we would've had a flame by now.... :-) Thanks! I am looking for connections in Scott County, IN. My parents, Loren Roseberry McClanahan and Alice Kern McClanahan and I lived in Scott County from 1937 to 1943 when I was a small child. When my parents divorced, Mother and I moved to Crothersville in Jackson Co. We lived on Boatman Road between Austin and Scottsburg. Some of my father's ancestors, the Waldsmith's, are buried in the cemetery at Austin. Several of my mother's Kern relatives lived in Scottsburg. Charles "Chuck" Kern and his wife, Ione, owned the bakery and his sister, Doris Kern, taught third grade there for many years. I am looking either for connections to relatives or to anyone who knew my parents. Ardath McClanahan Blue Edna, TX

You win! You win! Due to "popular demand", there are eight or ten photos taken this afternoon (3/14/98) on the new Pigeon Roost Cemetery webpage at: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Plains/5881/pigeonroostcem.html I especially want to thank PAT MOUNT and MARSHA McWILLIAMS for their quick response to my query about additional information on Pigeon Roost Cemetery (included on the new webpage). I'm sure you will find their contributions of great interest. Be sure and let me know if any of the graphics or links don't work. I threw this together in quite a hurry. Two things first: (1) It will probably take a WHILE for all 13 of these photos to load onto your browser. Please be patient. You might want to get up and do something "constructive" while the photos are loading. :-) (2) Help yourselves to any of these pictures. Use them in whatever manner you deem appropriate. I'm sorry they aren't of better quality but my little digital camera has serious limitations. I tinkered with several of them to improve the contrast, etc. For those of you unfamiliar with the process, if you see a picture on the website that you'd like to have for yourself, all you have to do (_IF_ you have __WINDOWS 95__) is: (1) Put your cursor anywhere in the photo you want, (2) RIGHT click, (3) Choose SAVE IMAGE AS..., (4) Type in a name and choose a directory on your hard drive where you want the image stored and hit SAVE or OK, (5) Later, you will be able to open this graphics file with any program that can handle JPG files (i.e., WordPerfect, CorelDraw, CorelPaint, etc.) (6) You can also paste these saved images into your website, genealogy program, etc. I'm sure there is a way to pick and save these files in Windows 3.1, but I don't know how to do it. HAVE FUN!!! Seeking information on the husband, and names of children of Nancy Tolby who appears on the 1820 Federal Census for Indiana as: Nancy Tolby Dubois County White males under 10: 2 White males 16-24: 1 White females under 10: 2 White females 10 - 15: 2 White females 26-44: 1 This is the earliest mention of this surname I have found in Indiana. The surname is not on the 1807 Terrirorial census. Samuel Taulbee and 7 of his sons are said to gone to Indiana from North Carolina and Kentucky about this time. Some, including a Nancy Tolby, are found on the 1860 census for Tippecanoe and Hendricks counties IN, with the surname TOLBY. -- Robert L. -- [ From: Sue Montgomery-Cook * EMC.Ver #2.5.3 ] -- Hi All! I'm new to the list, but it is just what I need! I have a lot of family from Scott CO, IN and others from Kentucky. All of these folks were in Scott CO by the 1840s. The Halls and Hennings came from Ireland in 1830. My Scott CO, IN names are: Lorenzo Dow MONTGOMERY who married Mary GUYN in 1842 in Woodford CO, KY . They raised a large family in Scott CO. ( Mary was the daughter of Gabriel and Mary GUYN who also settled in Scott CO.) (The children of Lorenzo Dow Montgomery and Mary Guyn married into these families: Bridgewater, Florie, Sands, Pierpont, Ryan, Sipes and Richardson.) Other names are: Richardson Hall Selman Garrett Henning Middleton McClannahan And I am curious about the Sipes family. My grandfather, Seymour Wesley Montgomery who married Margaret Jane Richardson in 1890 in Scott CO, named my father Loyd Sipes Montgomery. I found that Seymour's brother Charles married a Sargaret Sipes the same year. Apparently my father was named for this family. I have never found where I am a descendant of the Collings/Collins family. I believe that my ancestor, John Pavey, (known by "Pavey" - he partnered with a "Miller" - both Indian scouts that the Washington Co. History Books write about) could have been actively involved at least in the chase afterwards. He was deceased by July, 1814 - papers filed in Washington Co., IN. That FTM may have more on the family, I haven't checked in a long time. Sorry I don't have more on the other families. Marsha McWilliams

If anyone is interested, I have about a dozen digital photos that I snapped this afternoon of Pigeon Roost Cemetery, just north of the Clark County line, in Scott County, Indiana. They are in JPG format. I can e-mail them to you as attachments, if you are interested. I only took photos of a couple of individual older stones that caught my eye, but I have several reasonably good shots of the monument there, which reads, primarily: "In memory of the pioneer heroes, twenty-two in number, massacred at Pigeon Roost defeat by the Shawnee Indians." and a pretty good one of the historical marker, which reads: "A community established here in 1809 was attacked by Indians on September 3, 1812; 15 children and 9 adults were massacred; only one family escaped to spread the alarm." CAVEAT: Don't expect photographic quality on these digital photos. They were taken with a relatively inexpensive digital camera and the quality is NOT very high. If you've never seen Pigeon Roost, however, you may be interested in seeing these images. I just don't have room on my website server to load all of them and thought I'd see if anyone would like them. Anyone with a Pigeon Roost website is welcome to use these, if you have nothing better to include on your page. BTW, does anyone have an on-line index of the persons buried at Pigeon Roost, including the list of persons massacred in 1812? I sure would like to like such information to my Clark County Cemeteries website, even though Pigeon Roost is just outside Clark County.
