    3. I was also surprised at Ms Landers' statement that she was not interested in her own family history. But I don't think that her disinterest has any effect on anyone else. What do you think her clout is going to do? Make people stop searching for their ancestors? As for the school projects: I think she was saying that the possibility exists for comparisons - children are cruel - and teachers aren't always as sensitive as we would like. I have had personal experience with my child being given such assignments and yes, some of them made me uncomfortable. I DO have a problem with the school asking for personal information about my private life. It is a very different situation from voluntarily sharing genealogy information with others who are not in a position to be judging your child. The situations mentioned by the letter-writer are also valid concerns and, again, if the teacher is not sensitive to the issues involved, it could be a difficult situation for the child. I think the reason the schools give these assignments is to demonstrate the cultural diversity among the students, an admirable goal, but the methods must be given much consideration. L Nepstad

    3. I new at looking for any leads to information on my family. I am looking for leads to when my great grandparents got married. Where do I start ? .. The family story goes that they both came on a ship from Germany probably about 1873 and settled in New Albany , In. and then moved to Louisville, Ky. Their names are Jacob Baehm (Boehm) and Catherine Waeker or Wacker. My great grandmother first married Jacob's cousin (Luhr which died at age 25 years old.) She had a son by Luhr called Chris and then later married my great-grandfather Jacob and had a daugther Louise Catherine Baehm Broyles, my grandmother. If anyone has any information. I appreciate the help. Thanks. tricia@theremc.com

    3. I may have sent this before, but I am still at the brick wall: We have an ancestor, John DRUMMOND [?-?] who married on 5 Jan 1833 in Clark Co., IN to Sarah WORK [ca1814-?]. One source shows this John DRUMMOND as the son of John DRUMMOND [?-1811, battle of Tippecanoe] and Rebecca WORK [1792-1867], {Sarah WORK's 3rd cousin}. Another source claims that John DRUMMOND who married Nancy J. ROE 21 Jan 1836 in Clark County was the son of John and Rebecca. Can anyone tell me which John DRUMMOND was the son of John and Rebecca? If John, husband of Nancy ROE was their son, who were parents of John who married Sarah? {These folks could have solved all this if they had been a little more original in their naming practices!} Don McLatchie

    3. Hi, I'm new to the list and haven't posted anything about my ancestors, but here they are. Silas PENNINGTON, b. ca. 1802, md. Nancy (?) and had 9 children. They were Elizabeth ca. 1826, Thomas Jefferson ca. 1827, Richard ca. 1829, Drury ca. 1832, Nancy ca.1834, Samuel ca. 1837, Pamelia ca. 1840, Amanda ca. 1842 and James ca. 1846. James was very probably my g-g-grandfather. The family was in HARDIN COUNTY, KY for both the 1840 and 1850 census. Both Silas and Nancy seem to have died before the 1860 census, and none of their children turn up as heads of household there until the 1870 census, where I found only James, and he was working on the Daniel L. Lampton(?) farm. The other boys must have moved on, and of course the girls probably married. I would love to know who Silas and Nancy PENNINGTON'S parents were, and where they originated. Family lore says Lee County, VA, and YES I AM ON THE PENNINGTON DIGEST LIST, but none of the Lee County researchers have any record of Silas. I'm also looking for James's first wife, my great-great- grandmother, as no one living remembers her name. I did find a record of his second wife, Martha "Mattie" Hornbeck of Hardin County. Not to confuse the issue, but James PENNINGTON'S son "Dave", my great- grandfather, married Elizabeth "Lizzie" Anne ROBINSON of Hardin County, but I don't know the names of her parents, either. I do know she had a brother named Weaver. If any of this sounds familiar to anyone, I'd love to hear from you, and would gladly share what information I have. Thanks very much, Linda Koenig

    1. [KENTUCKIANA-L] Battle of Floyd's Defeat
    2. Ruth, I too am a Demarest/Demaree descendant and I have the following notes in my genealogy file: "According to the Demarest Family Genealogy second edition 1964 page V26 Rachel, daughter of Samuel and Lea, was baptised Apr 1, 1744 Hampton, Bucks County, PA This family must have moved around a lot as brother John was born in Berkley County Va, 1745 and two sisters later in NYC." " Rachel, daughter of Joost and Maria Meyer, was baptised Jan 9 1743 Schraalenburgh. Married NYC Nov 20 (17) 1762 Gerardus Ryker (Ryckman) and second John Van Cleave after the death of her first husband (Sep 15, 1781). Gerardus was killed in Bullskin, KY, in Boone's and Tylers defeat by the Indians. etc. John Van Cleave was the son of Aaaron and Rachel Schenck. Eight children Ryker and two children Van Cleave." I hope this helps. Ardath Blue Edna, TX RF>Read the account of Floyd's Defeat with interest. My genealogies on my RF>Ryker/Demarest/Hoagland(Hougland) ancestors say that Henry Hougland and RF>Gerardus Ryker were both killed during the Battle of Floyd's Defeat in 1792. 3. Good afternoon everyone! :-) Please don't forget that I will be printing my site tomorrow and giving it to the New Albany Library this weekend....send me your address to go along with your queries if you want it included. :-) I have added two more stories, thanks to Ardath! The 1937 Flood and The Circus People..... These are two wonderful stories! Go take a look! I wonder if any of you out there could possibly volunteer to transcribe the 1820 census for just one of our counties? ;-) In case you haven't noticed...there is something going on with e-mail.....I have received in the past two days over 200 e-mail bounces for this list....and I have noticed a few of my e-mails to the list don't go through for hours....I don't think it's a rootsweb problem, because I have also tried to send e-mail to others and it hasn't went through......Hopefully this won't last long! ~crossing fingers~ Does anyone know where I may call about purchasing a used (but working) microfilm reader...I have called local libraries..but they couldn't help...any suggestions? Ok, you new listmembers.....we haven't heard from you and we know you're there! ;-) Let us know who you're looking for! Maybe one of us can help! Thanks all!
