    1. [KENTUCKIANA-L] Updates to the Clark County, IN Cemeteries Website
    2. Lois Mauk
    3. Following yesterday's meeting of the Clark County Cemetery Preservation Committee, we visited three pioneer cemeteries in Monroe Township (in the Henryville area). The websites for those three locations have been updated by the adding of photos of the cemeteries. Photos of Dietz Cemetery (added 05/02/98) Photos of Little Union Cemetery (added 05/02/98) Photos of Mt. Zion Cemetery (added 05/02/98) The next meeting of the CCCPC will be Saturday, June 6, at 2 PM at Emmanual United Methodist Church in Otisco. The focus of the June meeting will be OREGON TOWNSHIP. I've also added photos of McCormick Cemetery, Eastern Cemetery and St. Anthony Cemetery. Unfortunately, I still do not have indexes of Eastern or St. Anthony. All three of these are in Jeffersonville Twp. Finally, we have added and revised the index for Bowery Cemetery [a/k/a Willey's Chapel], as researched by Stephen D. Franklin <daniel@iglou.com>. My thanks to Stephen for all his hard work. All these websites are accessible from: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Plains/5881 Lois - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Clark County, Indiana Cemeteries Page: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Plains/5881/index.html Volunteers are still needed to help with Francis Wells and McClintick/Sylvester Cemeteries clean-up projects this spring. -----------------------------------------------------------------

    2. LKWCROSS
    3. I am sending this to a few lists as I don't know where to go with this. I am looking for information on the birth and death of George MCDONALD: He was born between 1828 and 1830 in Montgomery Co., KY. He died sometime around 1899 - I do not know where. George MCDONALD was married to Mary C. MADDOX in Oldham County, KY on Feb 10 1855. The marriage bond showed that George was 25 at that time. They had 10 children: Georgiana A. MCDONALD Joan? Eliza A. Catherine Angy and William (twins) Florence **Thomas R. Charles Ada A. **Thomas R. MCDONALD was born on Jan 14 1862 in Oldham Co., West Port, KY and died Nov 30 1903 in Grayson Co., Shrewsbury, KY. He married Ellen N. Robbins about 1883. My main questions - like above - where and when was George MCDONALD born and died? If anyone has a connection and have any information, please let me know. Thank you. Lisa WHITING LKWCROSS@aol.com

    1. [KENTUCKIANA-L] I need help!
    2. Dee
    3. Hi everyone! I'm in a heck of a spot! I need an assistant! I know of quite a few people who would make a great assistant....and each of these, I would hope, would love to volunteer their time to help at Kentuckiana. My problem; I can't ask one of them! If I ask one I'm afraid I'll upset another who has given equal time helping me and encouraging me. That aside, I really don't know who to ask anyway! All that I have in mind are great people who I'm sure would do a great job! Anyone have any suggestions? My mother says I should hold an election.....hmmmm...it's an idea! Anyone else???? Please help, I'm really in need of help here! (If my e-mail program takes in many more I think it's going to crash!) Besides, as I said in another e-mail, I'm not going to be able to spend as much time on-line very soon..... Thanks for any and all suggestions! 1. [KENTUCKIANA-L] MD Catholics to KY 1774-1800
    2. Don & Melissa Alexander
    3. Just thought some without access to this would like this information: In "Sketches of the Early Catholic Missions of Kentucky" by M.J. Spalding (1810-2872), he rights "The Catholics of the infant colonies received him [Rev. Mr. Whelan, Irish Franciscan Priest provided to the KY families] with open arms. Many of them had not seen a priest for two years. They were poor, scattered over an extensive territory, and had no church in which the divine mysteries might be offered up. They were in too destitute a condition to be able to erect ever a temporary place of worship." He goes on to state that there were only 50 Catholic families in KY by 1786. He further states that the Catholic population of KY emigrated almost entirely from St. Mary's and Prince George's Co, MD. William Coomes (Combs/Coombes) and his 16 yr old son, Walter A., were the first known Catholics to emigrate to KY in 1774-1775. The Haydons and Lancasters led the first Catholic Colony in KY, mostly around Pottinger's Creek, abt 1785. (One of the Haydons lost 7, and another lost 3, family members from hardship and sickness while on the way to Kentucky.) The next spring, 1786, a larger colony of Catholics was led by Capt. James Rapier. In 1787, another colony led by Phillip Miles and Thomes Hill, then another in 1788 led by Robert Abel. Benedict Spalding led a group in 1790. 1. [KENTUCKIANA-L] Denton and related families
    2. Sue Cook
    3. Hi All! I have updated the Denton Family Genealogy web site and added more down-loadable gedcoms for your personal use. These now include Moore, Hunt, Denton, Plumlee, Chastain, O'Dell and Cooper surnames, from the 1600s to present day. While these zipped gedcom files include those who married into the Denton family, they also include many more lines of descendants from common ancestors, and there are hundreds of these 'cousins' and their families. (These files are NOT the same as the on-line searchable database at the web site, and have hundreds more individuals.) Of course, the page still has biographies and wills and searchable database of hundreds of surnames, pertinent links and a little 'fun stuff' too! Mostly, these families moved from Virginia and New York through the Carolinas into Kentucky and Tennessee and then fanned out all over the country. If you have any questions about anything on the site or would like more information, please let me know! The address is: http://www.acun.com/dentons Blessings! Sue Montgomery-Cook

    3. Hi everyone! I've created a new forum and chat area for everyone to discuss Kentuckiana Genealogy. Come join in with us at: http://forums.delphi.com/m/main.asp?sigdir=kentuckiana If you've never been before, you will need to fill out a short registration....nothing to it, and it's free. I need to do this because I will not have the time to answer general questions about Kentuckiana anymore. I'll tell you all about this later! ;-) So...if you have any general questions....questions about boundary changes, where something is located, etc...etc...please post it here instead of sending an e-mail to me. I will still check the boards often and if a question needs answered I'll do my best for everyone! But atleast this way everyone can help me out a bit and try to answer any questions they know the answer to! :-) (I am currently receiving about 30 e-mails everyday asking "general" questions, and atleast 5 queries every day that I need to post) There is also a query section...but remember, these posts do not stay on forever, and a Kentuckiana's Most Wanted section for you to post about your most elusive Kentuckiana ancestor! (you can still send me your queries the same way) And don't forget the chat area!!! If anyone would like to try to set up a time for everyone to meet that would be great! Thanks everyone!
