Good morning everyone, I just found out this morning that my grandaunt, my grandfathers last living sibling, passed away yesterday at her home in Leavenworth, Crawford Co., IN. Sallie B. Floyd Carver Chandley East was born 09MAY1914 in Meade Co., KY, the daughter of John Floyd (Murphy) and Lillie Florence Fenix. She was the seventh of eight children, the eighth is my grandfather, the last of this generation of Floyd's. Sallie was married to Herbert Carver in Meade Co., KY and they had 5 children. Russell, Joanne, Charles, Roy Dean, Harold Ray. In her lifetime she buried two of her children, Russell and Roy Dean and lost her first husband in a boating accident on the Ohio River. She later married Charles Chandley. She also lost this husband, he committed suicide. Much later, after her children were grown, she married Charles East. Sallie is survived by her husband, Charles East, two sons; Harold Ray Carver and Charles Carver; one daughter Joanne Quebberman. Numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren. She was 84 years old. I've spent the morning on the phone with my father talking about Aunt Sallie. The many wonderful stories being told are something alot of us don't realize would be interesting to our descendents, something they would love to read and pass on to their children, and could inspire them and others to write things down. Even those that seem insignificant to you would be cherished by your grandchildren. Thanks for letting me talk a bit..... Dee Kentuckiana Genealogy http://www.aye.net/~dee1234/

Looking for a John Haymaker who married Annie Crum in 1834 in Clark County, Indiana. Would like to have anything anyone might have on these two people. Thanks
Hi, Wondered if anyone can help me find the James G. Jones family. James G. Jones was the first Attorney General for the new state of Indiana. Our state in it's infancy neglected to fund the AG position; however, James G. Jones's signature occurs on a dozen or so documents prior to the legislature funding the position in 1821 for $200 per year. James G. Jones was married 30 Sep 1815 (license issued) in Perry Co., IN. The next day he married Lucretia Shepherd at Leopold, IN, in St. Augestine Catholic Church by Fr. Chas. Coomes. In 1861 J. Jones owned 80 acres in Tobin Twsp., Perry Co., IN. In "Warrick Co. - 1885" by Goodspeed, pg. 7 "One of the ablest lawyers of the Indiana bar was James G. Jones who succeeded Judge Panett 1869-1871. Resident of Evansville, Vanderburgh Co., IN, but lived early life in Newburg. Attorney General for the State." Pg. 53 lists James G. Jones as Coroner in 1814. Pg. 86, "James G. Jones was a member of the secret society of the Newburg Lodge #104, I.O.O.F. and a charter member of the Wolsey Encampment Jan. 18, 1854." I am seeking his descendants and thank you for your help. If someone happens to have a copy of Indiana 1860 census I need a look up on two names. 1. John M. NASH born July 27, 1854 2. Mary B. UTT born March 17, 1860 (Any information on the UTT family (any information on the UTT surname will suffice since she probably is not enumerated.) Trying to find the ancestors of these two, who later married probably around Tunneltown, Indiana. Any assistance appreciated, Thanks, Glenn.

I am seeking additional information on Jacob RICE and Mary BURKHART who married in Floyd County, IN, on March 7, 1840. A daughter, Sarah Catherine RICE, was born May 17, 1843. I have been unable to find any record of what happened to Jacob RICE, but Mrs. Mary RICE married Elias NEWKIRK in Crawford County, IN, on October 1, 1849. I have located the Elias NEWKIRK family on the Crawford County census records for 1850-1870 in Crawford. By 1880 they were in Lamar County, Texas. According to information in a family Bible, Mary died January 2, 1899, and was buried near Cooper in Delta County, Texas. Any additional help on Jacob RICE and Mary BURKHART will be greatly appreciated. I have collected considerable data on the descendants of Sarah Catherine RICE RAY that I am willing to share. Several of you may be interested in the background information and photos of Silver Creek Cemetery and of the "Worrall Burying Grounds" that I just added to the Clark County Cemeteries website at: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Plains/5881 In 1985/86, 135 graves at the old "Worrall Burying Grounds" were moved by the property owner (Essroc) to Silver Creek Cemetery. An index of the old Worrall Cemetery was done in 1984 (before the move) but, unfortunately, that list includes only about 40 names. I would very much like to add the additional known names to the Worrall list and hope to find time to index the stones found in this new area sometime this summer. Still, you may enjoy the background information and photos that I've added to these websites. Congratulations, Dee, for being honored by Cindi! Your site is getting better and better every day. I have a question. Is there any way to find out about someone buried in a Crawford County, Indiana cemetery....in Fredonia to be exact? When my ancestors passed through Fredonia on their way to Illinois, they lived in that area and one of my Great Grandmothers died there. Her name was Elizabeth McMURTRY and her date of death was 1818. Her husband's name was James. If anyone out there might have any info on this, I sure would appreciate hearing from you! Thanks, Janice Chastain Lund
Hi everyone! I hope everyone is having a great Memorial Day weekend! First of all...welcome to the 10 people who just subscribed today! Please feel free to send us a note telling us who you're researching! Also, this list is only part of Kentuckiana Genealogy Website located at: http://www.aye.net/~dee1234 Here are the updates I've made today: **************************************************************************** ********************** I have uploaded a new section. "Pioneers of Kentuckiana" So far I have Lawrence Co. uploaded. I'm working from the book _History of Lawrence, Orange and Washington Co.'s Indiana_ ©1884 I'm still working on it, but I wanted to go ahead and upload it to get an update out. I also want you all to see the format I'm using, and what I'm adding for each individual. If you click on their name (if it's a link) you'll get more information on that person. If any of you have information on a Kentuckiana Pioneer please send it to me. I'm working on those who were here 1825 and earlier. There are over 200 people so far in the Lawrence Co. section, with more coming. **************************************************************************** ************************ I have also updated the query section. There were about 20 queries added. **************************************************************************** ************************ In the births section, I have updated the following counties: Crawford, Dubois, Hardin **************************************************************************** ************************ In the marriage section I have updated the following counties: Lawrence **************************************************************************** ************************ The Resources section has been updated. If you have addresses and/or phone numbers for local libraries, Genealogical/Historical societies, etc...please send them to me and I'll post them there. **************************************************************************** ************************ I'm still looking up information on Famous People from Kentuckiana. Remember, send those to me if you know of any. Some of the ones I have so far are: Abraham Lincoln, The Reno Gang, Sherman Minton, James Best, Benjamin Harrison, Ned Beatty, Ken Kercheval, Tom Cruise, Edwin P.Hubble, Fuzzy Zoeller, Camille Wright, George Rogers Clark, William Clark, Zachary Taylor, Gov. Frank O'Bannon, Squire Boone, Daniel Boone, Col. Harlan Sanders, Diane Sawyer, Irene Dunn, Foster Brooks, Victor Mature, Thomas Edison and others.... I have some biographical information on each of these people, but I can always use more info if you have it. **************************************************************************** ************************ I want to share something else with everyone. I recently found out from a listmember that we were reviewed by Cyndi Howells in her column in Heritage Quest Magazine! The following is the review: - ------------------------------ Heritage Quest, May/June 1998, Issue Number 75, pp. 36-38 Untangling the web: Lineage Links by Cyndi Howells In the process of creating and maintaining my own web site, Cyndi's List of Genealogy Sites on the Internet, <http://www.cyndislist.com/>http://www.CyndisList.com, I have had the opportunity to visit thousands of web sites related to genealogical research. In doing so, I have been able to determine what features and types of content make up a good web site. First and foremost, a good genealogy web site should contain information that will aid the online researcher in discovering information about their own family lines. This can be anything from actual source material or content to advice or helpful articles. The purpose of the web site should be clearly stated on the main home page and the site should be easy to navigate throughout. As these sites are meant for research, it isn't necessary for them to be flashy, decorative or contain a lot of graphics although this may add to the overall experience for someone who visits a site. The following are a few examples of terrific web sites that are currently available to aid you in your online genealogical search. Kentuckiana Genealogy <http://www.aye.net/-dee1234>http://www.aye.net/-dee1234/ Covering the Indiana counties of: Clark, Crawford, Dubois, Floyd, Harrison, Perry, Scott and Washington; and Kentucky counties of Breckinridge, Jefferson, Hardin and Meade. Dee Floyd-Pavey works tirelessly on this site, adding information to it regularly. Included on the site are censuses, GEDCOM databases, links, genealogy help files, queries, photos, stories, and details for a Kentuckiana mailing list and a Kentuckiana web ring. [an image of home page is included on p. 38] -------------------------------------- I feel very honored to have been included, and the kind words by Cyndi really made my day! :-) *grinning from ear to ear* **************************************************************************** ************************** I hope to update a little more today. may not get the chance, though...... Thanks everyone, Dee Kentuckiana Genealogy http://www.aye.net/~dee1234/

Members of the Jeffersonville Jaycees will be joining us on Saturday morning, May 23, at McCLINTICK/SYLVESTER CEMETERY to continue the work begun by Judge Steven Fleece's Clark County Courts' Community Service Corps. The community service workers cut down several dozen trees a couple of weeks ago and the Jaycees have agreed to come help us this weekend as the restoration of this long-forgotten cemetery continues. Anyone who'd like to help is invited to bring a rake and join us at the site at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, May 23. The cemetery is located in the 3200 block of Coopers Lane, adjacent to the I-265 overpass. The McClintick/Sylvester Cemetery website is at: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Plains/5881/mcclintickcem.html On a different note, the owner of the property surrounding DIETZ CEMETERY in Monroe Township has asked the Clark County Cemetery Preservation Committee for its assistance in repairing the many broken stones at that site. We are still waiting for the property owner to build a road to permit us access to the old FRANCIS WELLS FAMILY CEMETERY in Silver Creek Township. Mr. Ballew has already agreed to let us clean up the old cemetery, where we hope to find quite a few buried stones. At present, only a single stone remains visible. The next meeting of the CCCPC will be on Saturday, June 6, 1998 at 2:00 P.M. at the Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 9199 Old State Road 3 in Otisco. The focus will be Oregon Township Cemeteries and ongoing projects. After the meeting, we will be visiting several Oregon Township pioneer cemeteries. Thanks. Hi all, I just want to talk with you all for a minute on warnings, urban legends, etc...etc... But first...I want to tell you something that will be interesting to you....my list is a closed list...I made it this way so we avoid many of the spams that other lists have to deal with. This means that when someone who is not subscribed tries to send to the list, only I receive a copy and they are sent an e-mail saying they cannot post to this list, and why. Within the past five minutes I've received three copies that were sent to KENTUCKIANA-L of the same telephone scam e-mail. Can you all see how quick that grew? One was also being sent to over 30 other mailing lists. This puts such a tremendous strain on the server that I am very surprised rootsweb has been able to handle it! I would like to say that I neglected to say one thing.....this story isn't a hoax entirely....for all residential and most business users. Urban legend, yes...total hoax, no. As for some who needs to dial nine to get an outside number.....well...here goes; Instead of trying to tell it...I'll just send you there: http://urbanlegends.miningco.com/library/weekly/aa021898.htm After you read the above site you will see how senseless it is to forward and reforward this e-mail. Most of us don't even need to think about it....while others who do need to dial nine (at work) just need to check with their phone Co. about their set-up. And if they're that worried about it...fix the set-up. This letter isn't a hoax....but it is an urban legend. As I've read, a story doesn't have to be totally false to be an urban legend. It's more of a story that isn't relevant to the majority, yet is passed around like a hot potato, and very important details are left out (ie. that it doesn't effect the majority of the people and businesses) Please take a look at the mining Co.'s Urban Legends and hoaxes site before forwarding that next warning you receive. http://urbanlegends.miningco.com/mbody.htm Thanks, Dee Kentuckiana Genealogy http://www.aye.net/~dee1234/
