Would like to correspond with descendants of Emaline EMERSON, who married Albert STROUD, 17 July 1879, in Crawford Co., Indiana, and with descendants of Mary Stroud and Martha Pinky Stroud. Mary and Martha inherited Emaline's share of the Christopher PATTERSON estate in 1908 that would have been inherited by Emaline's mother Nancy Patterson Emerson, had Nancy been living at that time. Evidently, Emaline had also died by 1908. Emaline and Albert are on the 1880 Soundex living in Vanderburgh Co., Indiana. Bettie Emerson Kain bkain@venus.net

Searching for parents of Henry Frederick HESSIG (Hassig, Haessig, Hesseg, Haessick, Hessick) who was born between 1848 and 1852 in southern Indiana. Henry married Ruth FULLER (daughter of Noah FULLER and Hannah WALLER) in 1880 in Perry county, Indiana. They had one son, Noah Henderson HESSIG. Ruth died in 1884 in Perry county. Henry then married Barbara Ellen KELLEMS in 1887 in Perry county. They lived in Perry, Dubois, and Clark counties, Indiana and were the parents of five sons and three daughters. Henry's father was George HESSIG who reportedly immigrated from Germany in 1848 with his brother (name unknown). His mother's name is unknown. I have found records of George HESSIG (with various spellings) in Dubois and Spencer counties, Indiana. These records have him coupled with Elizabeth KRIGER (Kruger), Julia SCHOENBACH, and Catherina RICHTER. Unfortunately, they usually say that George was born in France. I am looking for evidence that these are all the same George and/or one of them was the father of my Henry. Additionally, I need to know who Henry's mother was. Any assistance will be gratefully accepted. Sherri Hessick thessick@flash.net
Dee and all, I don't think I ever mentioned that the book I have on Hardin County includes the 1810 CENSUS, on which the heads of household are named, with their families enumerated in age categories. I will be glad to do LOOKUPS in that census. Also, according to this book there was NO Daviess, Hart, Meade, Edmonson, Hancock, LaRue or McLean County at that time, and portions of each of them were originally HARDIN County. Linda
Thanks to all of you who responded to my query about the 1909 house numbers change. As I understand it, in 1909 the city of Lousiville decided to re-number many houses to make the pattern more consistent from street to street. However, due to a lightning strike last nite I will be slower than usual following up on your excellent suggestions. The hit took out my computer, and assorted electronic gadgets that we have kind of taken for granted. Like telephones and answering machine, and t.v.'s. I did have my familytreemaker on a back-up disk. The hit was pretty strong but the worst went into the ground. It hit an antenna that was grounded. So I am happy that we and our home are okay. Just miss my computer. Much more than the television. Thanks again and I will be back in touch when this mess is straightened out. Oh, this computer is a make-shift arrangement. Another blessing. Hi, I wonder if anyone on this list knows anything about how one goes about finding the address of a house after it was changed in 1909 in Louisville. I have asked and asked folks and was only told to look at the city directory for 1909. It gives the new addresses but not all of the old ones. I have an elderly friend who wants to see the house where her mother was born but we only know the old address. Any suggestions? Discouraging news to report. The Clark County Commissioners' office contacted me today to advise that copies of the "Clark County Road Map" that I recommended to this group many months ago are NO LONGER AVAILABLE. There are no more maps to be had from the County. I asked if the slightly dated map was going to be reprinted and available in the future. The reply was not encouraging. I was told that the person who did the cartography has died and the work would have to be recommissioned, at great expense, especially since it would have to be re-done to reflect the current state of the county. If you didn't take advantage of the $1 bargain, I'm afraid it is too late. I have, however, reproduced the 12 townships in black-and-white, high resolution format on my website, which you can easily retrieve from my Clark County Cemeteries website at: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Plains/5881 Lois - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Clark County, Indiana Cemeteries Page: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Plains/5881/index.html Volunteers are still needed to help with Dietz, Francis Wells and McClintick/Sylvester Cemeteries clean-up projects this summer. -----------------------------------------------------------------

Does anyone know who is responsible for coordination and the upkeep and repair of stones at the Scott Cemetery, located behind the Industrial Park. As I understand it this is Floyd Counties first public burial ground. It is in really bad shape with many stones pushed over and toppled. Apparently much vandalism. Anyone with information please let me know. Thanks, Glenn.
Trying to find top part of a tombstone that is missing from small private cemetery in Floyd Co. Indiana. This cemetery is the Smith Family Cemetery on Charlestown Road. It is situated on the East side of the road at the rear of properties fronting Charlestown Road. There is a BAUMGARTEL tombstone there, but the top spire (approximately 8"x8" square and 2' tall) is missing. I searched the area thoroughly for this missing part last summer while clearing brush and vines. I believe that someone might have moved the missing part until it could be remounted on the base. Anyone having information in regard to this stone, or anyone that has information on the cemetery please let me know. Thanks, Glenn.
Does anyone have any information on the Hiram Begley that was the Cenus Taker for the 1830 Cenus of Perry County, Kentucky. Or any suggestion on where to write for info on him? Mary marksw@cyberhighway.net
