    1. [KENTUCKIANA-L] Re: KENTUCKIANA-D Digest V98 #175
    2. I am searching the Shelby/Jefferson Co., KY area for Henry Hogland. He married Rachel Ryker in 1791 and died in 1792. Have discovered a paragraph in Kentucky Gazette that says " Henry Hogland, son of Gov. William Hogland of the "land west of the Ohio") married Elizabeth Carpenter, daughter of John Carpenter, (landlord of Norris Town "west of the Ohio") in Pittsburg in 1787." Anybody have any idea who Gov. William Hogland is? I have found no record. Any suggestions as to where I might find information on him? Any help welcome. I have hit a brick wall since Henry was only alive a short time after his marriage and not in any of the census records. Thanks. Ruth Filip

    3. 1880 Census Madison co., KY vol 20 ED 74 p 11 line 40, Elliston Dist #4, taken 11 JUN 1880: Reeves Doc w, m head 25 KY KY KY Reeves, Sarah w, f wife 25 KY KY KY Reeves Joe w, m son 2 KY KY KY Carpenter William w, m nephew 8 TN TN KY Our Andrew Jackson Carpenter has been a hard person to find any info on. We know his as Andrew "Andy" Jackson Carpenter, which is also the name on his Marriage Bond and Death Certificate. However, in the new Albany City directory of Floyd Co., IN, where he resided for a while, he is listed as William A. J. Carpenter, where he resided with a son, Wm. Carl Curtis Carpenter. I have checked the Kentucky Census, since he supposedly was born in Christian Co., or hopkins co., KY and in 1880 there were only 2 Andrew Carpenters that could have been him. The mere fact that there is no 1890 Census complicates matters, as he was married by 1900. I found the above census records, but I also found this only a short distance away: 1880 Madison Co., KY vol 20, ED 74, p 19 line 25, Elliston Dist #4, taken 7 JUN 1880. Andrew would have become 8 years old June 14, 1880. Carpenter Mary (his mother was Mary Jane Frances, Frances could have been a third given name, but more than likely it was a surname), w, f, head 28 ky KY KY Carpenter, Sarah w, f, dau, 11 KY KY KY Carpenter, Andrew w, m, son 7 TN TN KY Carpenter, Thomas w, m, son 5 TN TN KY Carpenter, Wiley w, m, son 1 TN TN KY Probably this is our Andrew Carpenteter, as he was not yet 8 years old then this census was taken, only 7 days before his 8th birthday. On the other hand, the listing at the top of this message was also found in the same district, but was enumerated a different day, four days later, but still before Andrew's birthday. He would have been 8 yrs in three more days and was staying with a relative. These are the only leads I have. There are no Carpenter families in Hopkins Co in 1870 or 1880. Would appreciate any help. Sue P. Carpenter

    1. [KENTUCKIANA-L] Tombstone Re-dedication ceremony
    2. Dee
    3. Hi everyone! I finally got the tombstone I ordered for my ancestor Alexander Gilmore. (Government can be so slow! took two years!) He was a Revolutionary War Soldier and his tombstone was stolen years ago from the Hottel/Gilmore Cemetery in Harrison Co., IN Now I need your help. I want to have a re-dedication ceremony the same week of his death 155 years ago, which will be in October. I was wondering if anyone on the list has any ideas....maybe someone here is a member of the VFW or American Legion and can check on services they may be able to offer. A 21 gun salute sure sounds great! ;-) I have been in touch with the DAR, and they have offered to say the prayer and a couple paragraphs....but the rest is up to me. This doesn't have to be anything huge....just special. Any ideas? Any help? ;-) Thanks Dee Kentuckiana Genealogy http://www.aye.net/~dee1234/ Webpages By Design http://www.floyd-pavey.com

    3. Tim; Sounds like a wonderful idea. I would volunteer for that!! Only our local funeral directors know for sure. What an undertaking. Excust the play on words. It would be a very huge job. Just the catholic records alone. Some of the cemetaries were just going to the computer for keeping records a few years ago. How great for future researchers. -----Original Message----- From: Tim Jones <tmj@astro.as.utexas.edu> To: KENTUCKIANA-L@rootsweb.com <KENTUCKIANA-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Thursday, August 06, 1998 8:45 AM Subject: [KENTUCKIANA-L] CEMETARY LIST >Wouldn't it be wonderful if someone were to put all of the burial >records for Louisville, Jefferson Co, KY on a searchable database? >Is there such a thing? > > > >Tim Jones > > >==== KENTUCKIANA Mailing List ==== >Kentuckiana is working on census records! 1. [KENTUCKIANA-L] Update on Blacktopped Cemetery in Clark Co., IN
    2. Lois Mauk
    3. Just a quick update on the status of our "Blacktopped Cemetery" here in Clark County. The first phase of the survey was conducted on Tuesday, 8/4/98 under the auspicies of the Jeffersonville Township Trustee. We don't have the results yet, but one of the surveyors commented to Donny Loweth on Tuesday that they had found three prior surveys of the cemetery, each of which was successively smaller than its predecessor survey. The surveyors are relying on the original 1882 partition order in establishing the metes and bounds of the "family grave yard" set out in that order. We should have the results later in the week. Thank you. Lois Mauk Can a Indiana property owner get away with PAVING over a cemetery and turning it into a parking lot? 2. Maria
    3. Has anyone had any problems with the Jefferson County, KY web page? I tried going to it last night, and everytime I tried, my browser locked up. I'm using IE 4.0. I tried with graphics and then just plain text and had the same problem both times. What is the Kentuckiana weg page address? I never could click on it to connect because as soon as I was able to see it, the browser would lock up. Only time I've had a problem with viewing a page. Thanks, Maria
