My father's name was Owen Porter PIERSON His father's name was Franklin A. PIERSON His father's name was Warren Porter PIERSON But I'm stumped after that. Warren was supposed to have been born in Scott County, IN around 1842 but I can't find any record of that. I did find the record of his marriage to Amanda LUKENBILL in Owen County, IN in 1864. Does anyone have information on who his parents were? Cheryl L. (Pierson) Dau
Looking for ancestors and siblings of Sarah Frances TAYLOR. Sarah was born on 13 June 1835 in Louisville, Kentucky. When she was young her father died as a result of an accident while cutting ice and her mother (Mary ___) remarried. They then moved to Greene County, Iowa. Sarah married John Winkleman on 19 Aug. 1858 in Jefferson City, Greene Coutny, Iowa. Sarah and John moved to California shortly after getting married. Sarah died near Cottonwood, California on 3 Nov. 1909. Family history states both her birth father and step father's last name was Taylor although I have seen the name White mentioned with a question mark but no referrence to if it was her birth or step father's name. I have a deceased aunt's notes that list her father as Joshua Taylor but no reference if that was her birth father or step father. These notes also list two brothers: Samuel and Benjamin. Sarah's mother Mary (______) Taylor passed away at the age of 87 in 1882, in Greene County, Iowa.

Diane, I do research on the "Newkirk" family and plan to start a publication of "Newkirk Notes", a newsletter on Newkirks starting the 1st of Jan 1999. I have a Malinda Newkirk, daughter of Cornelius Newkirk and Elizabeth Powell m May 19, 1794 in Clark Co In. Malinda married James Briley in Crawford Co. I have that he was born in North Carolina. Nothing else about James but I have more about Malinda. Sandy Berding
The Clark County Cemetery Preservation Committee had a great meeting this afternoon. The focus of the September meeting was UNION Township. Mr. Bill Stewart, the Union Township Trustee, joined us for this meeting and even accompanied us on our tour of cemeteries after the meeting. Mr. Stewart was responsible for coordinating the 7-day efforts of a County Corrections Department crew to clear, cut and clean Weir Cemetery. CCCPC Union Twp. Captain Nancy Monroe hopes to line up an Eagle Scout to undertake further restoration and clean-up efforts at Weir Cemetery. We are really looking forward to working with Mr. Stewart on this project. The photos I took this afternoon of Weir Cemetery, Bowery Cemetery and Ebenezer Church Cemetery in Union Township are now on-line and accessible from the "What's New" section of my Clark County Cemeteries website at: http://www.geocities.com/~loismauk/5881 The October CCCPC meeting will be at 2:00 P.M. on 10/3/98 at the United Methodist Church on Mulberry Street in Utica. I will try to get permission from ICI America to take a vanload of people into the Indiana Army Ammunition Plant after that meeting to visit several Utica Twp. cemeteries located inside the Plant (i.e., Koonz Cem., Lentz Heirs Cem., Barnett Cem. and Union Cem.) [Six of the ten pioneer cemeteries inside the 8,000-acre now-deactivated federal government military installation are in Charlestown Twp.; these other 4 are in Utica Twp.] Lois
Hi everyone... I'm new to the list, but thought I'd jump in and get my feet wet anyway! My g-g-g-grandfather was Absalom BRILEY, b. abt. 1795 in North Carolina or Kentucky. He married Hannah WHEELER 8 Aug 1822 in Perry Co., Indiana. Absalom had at least one brother, James BRILEY, b. 15 Jul 1798, who married Malinda NEWKIRK 24 Feb 1820 in Crawford Co., Indiana. There was probably another brother named Samuel, b. 1781-1790, who married Margaret BART or BEST in 1819 in Crawford Co., Indiana. In 1820, a Marget BRILEY, age 45+, was enumerated in the Crawford Co., Indiana census. The only other person living with her was a male, age 16-25, which would fit Absalom's birthdate. Nearby were James BRILEY and his wife [Malinda] and Samuel BRILEY and his wife [Margaret]. Is Marget BRILEY the mother of Absalom, James and Samuel? Also in Crawford Co., Indiana, on 1 Jul 1818, a William BRILEY was killed by a man named OULEY. OULEY was convicted and hung. I haven't been able to find any additional information on this William BRILEY. Was Marget BRILEY, in the 1820 Crawford Co., Indiana census, his widow? Associated families of WHEELER, NEWKIRK, and ZENOR all have ties back to Jefferson/Bullitt Co., Kentucky before arriving in Harrison Co., Indiana and later Crawford Co. and Perry Co. Eventually these families migrated to Clay Co., Indiana and then on to Boone and Story Counties, Iowa. Do any of these names look familiar to other KENTUCKIANA researchers? Thanks! Diane
