Hello, I have gotten several responses to my query about politicians, and mostly questions, Perhaps I should clarify my request. I recently had a family member send me some information on a soldier from the 49th Indiana, and they thought that this soldier may have become a politician in the Indianapolis area post-bellum, and I'm trying to find out. His name is Lt. Colonel Arthur J. Hawhe. Hello, Benjamin and Charles HAYDEN are buried at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Meade Co. KY. Benjamin died 8/15/1841 and Charles died 8/14/1838. I am looking for any information about the spouses, children, and parents of these two men. Thanks Paul Hayden McKinney, TX
Just want to reinforce what Mickey posted regarding the use of city directories. I have several, and our local library has a number of them. They are most useful in helping people with their genealogy in this area. They were a great help when I was trying to locate someone who lived in this area a number of years ago, for an Army reunion group. I was able to contact neighbors shown in the directory, and they were able to direct me as to where the family might have moved. Mission successful.
Here is a very good source of information. It is city directories. So many people overlook the valuable source. You could evan find some of your elusive ancestors, here. Mother found the name of her grandfather on her mother's side. she looked up her grandmother and foun Wife of the man's name. I've been to the library and was waiting for an attendant to help me and heard her tell some one information, that could only be found in the directory. VERY good, interesting and accurate place to find info. Most libraries have them and they go back a few years. some older than others. these are done every year (locally) and it is required to tell them the info they seek to print one. Happy Hunting! Mickey

I have several families I'm researching that lived in Louisville, KY during 1860, etc. Unfortunately, I have no idea what ward/district of Louisville they were in and the city census is two full microfilm rolls! The FHC I was at didn't know of any index for this census. If I can come up with an address in Louisville, is there a map of the census districts to make my search easier? If you know of a surname index for Louisville, please let me know! Thanks for any research help! Nancy Prouty

I have been off the list for awhile. Still looking for Louisville connections: Michael SCHMITT married Rosalie VETTER in Louisville in 1848. Michael was listed by the name SMITH in census records and city directories. I can't seem to locate his parents and his naturalization seems to be in a book that is missing. Does anyone have a connection or an idea? Thanks, Mary
