    1. [KENTUCKIANA-L] Just a little humor
    2. Marlene
    3. Hope no one minds...but thought we all could relate. The Elusive Ancestor I went searching for an ancestor, I cannot find him still. He moved around from place to place and did not leave a will. He married where a courthouse burned, he mended all his fences. He avoided any man who came to take the U.S. Census. He always kept his luggage packed, this man who had no fame, And every 20 years or so, this rascal changed his name. His parents came from Europe. They should be on some list of passengers to the U.S.A., but somehow they got missed. And no one else in this world is searching for this man. So, I play geneasolitaire to find him if I can. I'm told he's buried in a plot, with tombstone he was blessed; but the weather took engraving, and some vandals took the rest. He died before the county clerks decided to keep records. No family Bible has emerged, in spite of all my efforts. To top it off, this ancestor who caused me many groans, Just to give me one more pain, betrothed a girl named JONES!

If a mailinglist for example is called "thelist@some.domain", then the -request address can be inferred from this to be: "thelist-request@some.domain". To subscribe to a mailinglist, simply send a message with the word "subscribe" in the Subject: field to the -request address of that list. As in: To: thelist-request@some.domain Subject: subscribe To unsubscribe from a mailinglist, simply send a message with the word (you guessed it :-) "unsubscribe" in the Subject: field to the -request address of that list. As in: To: thelist-request@some.domain Subject: unsubscribe In the event of an address change, it would probably be the wisest to first send an unsubscribe for the old address (this can be done from the new address), and then a new subscribe for the new address (the order is important). Most (un)subscription requests are processed automatically without human intervention. Do not send multiple (un)subscription or info requests in one mail. Only one will be processed per mail. NOTE: The -request server usually does quite a good job in discriminating between (un)subscribe requests and messages intended for the maintainer. If you'd like to make sure a human reads your message, make it look like a reply (i.e. the first word in the Subject: field should be "Re:", without the quotes of course); the -request server does not react to replies. The archive server ------------------ Every submission sent to this list is archived. The size of the archive depends on the limits set by the list maintainer (it is very well possible that only, say, the last two mails sent to the list are still archived, the rest might have expired). You can look at the header of every mail coming from this list to see under what name it has been archived. The X-Mailing-List: field contains the mailaddress of the list and the file in which this submission was archived. If you want to access this archive, you have to send mails to the -request address with the word "archive" as the first word of your Subject:. To get you started try sending a mail to the -request address with the following: Subject: archive help -- --WebTV-Mail-1768705853-620--

    3. Thanks to everyone who tried to help me find the original text of an article entitled "Early History of Clark County, Indiana" by Mrs. C. R. Cogswell, circa 5/25/1923. Seems we have solved the mystery. An ABBREVIATED version of Mrs. Cogswell's report was published in the News and Journal; however, the text provided to me by Jim VanDerMark is much more detailed and apparently more complete. BTW, the full text of this article can be found on the Clark County USGENWEB page, along with the text of William McCoy's 1885 and 1886 articles, at http://www.rootsweb.com/~inclark/clark.htm Again, thanks for your help. 3. I'm trying to figure out the source of Mrs. Cogswell's 5/25/1923 article, "Early History of Clark County, Indiana". I have checked the minutes of the Silver Creek Cemeterial Association (that's my NEXT project) and it's not there. I checked the microfilms for May 1923 for the Evening News and didn't find it. The National Democrat ceased publication before that date. Any other clues? I want to track down the original so I can proof a transcript against the original. Time is beginning to run short for me on the exhaustive history of Silver Creek Baptist Church/Stony Point Christian Church (publication date: 11/2/98), so I'd appreciate hearing from you soon. The Stony Point history will, hopefully, be less than 90 pages with 4 pages of color/b&w pictures from 1914 to the present. It will include over 100 years of previously unpublished church records, from 1798 to at least the end of the 19th Century, including membership rosters, etc. The purchase price has not yet been determined as the final COST has not yet been ascertained. All proceeds will benefit the Stony Point Christian Church Building Fund. The Bicentennial Anniversary of the church (1798-1998) will be on Sunday afternoon, November 22, 1998, at 3:00 at Stony Point Church, featuring a concert by Mike McCoskey and a reception afterwards. Hope you can join us. Regards. Lois

    1. [KENTUCKIANA-L] Need info--Bullit Co Marriage
    2. Could someone in that area please help me with a question? I learned that my great-great grandmother and grandfather, Jane Field and Samuel Pearman married Mar. 18, 1819 in Bullitt Co Ky. I sent for the marriage liscense thinking that there just might be another bit of information there. All I received was a copy of a page with about sixteen couples listed (including Jane Field and Samuel Pearman). My question----Did Bullitt Co. not have a liscense written out for each couple at that time? Is this an index--list of some sort, or is this all there is? I am grateful for this much since the courthouses have burned in some places where I need proof but I just need to know if there is a "real" liscense out there somewhere and if so, how could I obtain a copy of it? 1. [KENTUCKIANA-L] Schardein Cemetery in Louisville
    2. Good Morning Kentuckiana Researchers, I want to thank everyone who answered my query and share that info you provided me. Here is what I asked for: ". . . am attempting to locate a cemetery in Louisville. The handwritten name on the 1912 death certificate (of my GG grandmother Nancy Troxell) is not fully legible. It reads: Schardin[d] Cem. Not quite sure of the last couple of letter of the name." This is what you all told me: Schardein Cemetery is located on S 7th Street Road just south of Wathen Lane (between Arcade and Homeview). It is a small, inactive cemetery; some say it's cared for some say it is unattended. The cemetery records are kept at 641 Baxter Avenue; ph: (502) 584-5359. I'm in Dayton, OH, and I'll be attempting to find it next month. Some of you were interested in knowing about this cemetery and I'm passing along what I learned. Thanks. Cheers, Tony Armes armest@aol.com
