I am trying to get information about my direct-line. I am trying to get information about the family of Woirhaye that lived in Franklin County Kentucky. Especially with the last two children. Names of Elizabeth Ann (Lizzie) who died in 1840 I cannot find any information about this death. She died in a Christmas fire. I have been told the community helped put out this fire. For the family was very prominent in the community. Can anyone tell me how to find this information. I don't live anywhere close to the KY archives. So I cannot look in the Frankfort Newspaper during this time. Francis Clifford died as a young child only being 3 months old. I don't have much information about him. Except for his name. Please can someone help me. I'm in desperate help of information about these children. Help me someone. Jeanne Woirhaye
jpalmer wrote: > Were or are there coal mines in the following counties—Breckinridge, Ohio, > McLean, and Muhlenberg? There is a large area in western KY called the Western KY Coalfield that extends northward into southern IN and IL. (My dad used to fish the 'Stripper Pits' in Warrick Co., IN. These were the abandoned strip mining 'pits' that filled with water and were stocked with fish (crappie and blue gill) when there was no more coal to be had.) Check out a map at: http://www.uky.edu/KentuckyAtlas/phys-western-coal-field.html This region appears to cover all the counties you mention and many more. There is more information about coal mines in KY from the KY Geological Survey at: http://www.uky.edu/KGS/coal/webcoal/coalweb.htm Hope this helps! Terri McDonald Hauk [email protected]

Still trying to determine place of origin of both Franz Mundel and Anna M. Engelhart. He is said to have been in the Prussian Army in the early 19th century. I have no idea of her place of origin. They both died in Perry County (Tell City, Indiana) in 1873, leaving a number of dependent children. My grandfather, Frank X. Mundel, was the oldest at 14 years of age. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks. Cal Knobeloch

My father only told me before his death that he and his brother were brought from Florida about 1920 and placed eventually in an orphanage either in Jeffersonville Indiana which there was an orphanage in Jeffersonville in 1920. He told me that he was a member of the First Baptist Church in Louisville Kentucky but I have been unable to locate whether the orphanage was in Jeffersonville or in Louisville. I do not know how to get in touch with the First Baptist Church in Louisville to see if they have records of my father being a member there. I do not know where my grandfather John Dixon died as I have been told that he died in Jeffersonville but I am at a loss on where to begin to find information about my father. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you ahead of time for your consideration. Bernie Dixon

Dear List Members: This is a great list! I have had so many people help me along. I am wondering if anyone can help me with my new puzzle. A truly kind soul from Idaho has sent a book to me that has inscribed "Christian WUERTELE, Louisville, KY, 1842." There are a few words faintly visible above this, but too faded to read. The book was published in Philadelphia in 1839 and is written in German. This appears on the title page and seems to be from Lutheran Reformed Church: Das Gemeinfchaftliche Gefangbuch zum Gottesbeinftlichen Gemeinden der Lutherifchen und Reformirten Gemeinden in Nord America Does anyone have an idea as to which church would have used this book? Would this church still exist, today? If so what would the name be now? Thank you all for taking time to read this and for any suggestions to answering this puzzle. Martha Wurtele Alabama
Still looking for information on my RAY/MORRISON/ERVIN connection in Kentucky and Indiana. My 3rd Gr Francis RAY married Deborah ERVIN in 1786 in Rowan Co NC shortly before they migrated to Kentucky along with his parents James and Margaret (MORRISON) RAY. James and Deborah RAY ended up in Scott Co IN about 1816. Last trace we have of them is 1834 when they signed the deed transferring their farm to son Thomas RAY. Any help appreciated. Marian
To add to the discussion of Thomas Gilleland who died in Hardin Co., KY, c. 1813 and some of his children who went to Indiana... I'm wondering if he is the same Thomas Gilleland who served in western PA in the Am Revolution? I see THOMAS GILLELAND listed in several places in Howard Leckey's book, "The Tenmile Country and Its Pioneer Families". Many of the people in Tenmile area (Fayette Co., PA etc) came to northern KY (and particularly to Hardin Co.) to settle after 1780. The Vanmeters sort of led the migration starting in 1779. Many of these families inter-married in PA before coming, or their children/grandchildren inter-married in KY. Does anyone know for certain when Thomas Gilleland came to Hardin Co. KY and where he was before that? -- Helen Graves
