Jan, Thank you so very much for your research. I have 2 possible birthdates for George Gilbert, so this Manerva could very well be his parents. From everything I can find, I believe George Gilbert must have "stretched" to truth about his age from time to time. My husband, George's son, said he was born in 1880, but his death certificate says 1871. It could be that George told his second wife a different date. In 1937, the death certificate says that he was 55 years old. If I subtract 55 from 1937, I get 1882. This date may be closer to the truth. I will definitely attempt to follow through on both these families. Hopefully, light will shine on me some day. I am just thrilled to have this information. This is the most I have been able to find at all. Thank you again--Keep up the good work. Cecilia
I am new to the list, but am interested in family info on any of these surnames. My roots are with Stewarts, Becks, Baizes, Wilsons. The subject names stem from the Baize and Wilson lines. Specifically, I am searching for decendants of the Herbert Allen and Gladys (Wilson), Woodrow Davis and Irene (Wilson), Cecil Farley and Theda (Wilson), Willie D. Howard and Virginia K. (Wilson), Jewel M. Howard and Evelyn (Wilson) families. These are cousins that I have lost contact with, and need family info for my records. They are thought to be in the Louisville area. Any info appreciated! Erma L. (Stewart) McKinley
May 10 Meeting of KY Genealogical Society "Naming Patterns" Mike Watson, the Editor of Bluegrass Roots, will speak on the various things you need to know about "Naming Patterns" when tracing names through a family history. The meeting will be at 7pm at the Kentucky History Center in Frankfort. There is no admission cost, and all members of the public are invited. Dear All: Thank you so very much for the great help on the 1910 Census. As some of you advised it did not have all of the information that I had hoped to verify. A very special thank you to Karen, who found the record that I was seeking. Martha Wurtele Alabama
I am searching for any information on GEORGE GILBERT CHURCH. He was born Octrober 16, 1871 in Kentucky and died July 19, 1937 in Wichita Falls, TX. His parents were W. A. CHURCH born in Virginia and MINERVA BAFF/BAFFE/BAFP/BAPP (reading is near illegibility), born in Virginia. Could someone look them up on the 1860, 1870, 1880, and 1890 census? I have no idea whatsoever in what part of Kentucky he was born. I gleaned the information I have from a death certificate. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cecilia
Hi Vicki, I don't know if there's a link to the census or not, but I looked up George W. and George Gentry today in the 1850 and 1860 KY census. Here is what I found: 1850 Graves Co Ky, page 465 house589, family 589, lines 8-14 **George is living in the Bruce(?) household*** (I can hardly read this, so I am just going to give you the Gentry info, if you'd like to try to decipher it yourself, you can send me your snailmail addy and I will send it out Mon or Tues...Sorry) line 14 George Gentry, 16, M, Apprentice [G.W. Bruce is a Blacksmith], KY In 1860, there are two George Gentry's listed. One in Jefferson Co, page 035, but I couldn't find it on the page. I looked on page 34 and 36 and nothing. The other was in Rockcastle Co, page 516-517: -page 516 house 433, family 422, lines 37-40 John Gentry, 40, M, Farmer, RE 822, PE 715, KY Franken (Fraukay?) Gentry, 35, F, KY Henry C. It just wasn't on the page or close to the page listed in the index. Decatur County Journal Iowa February 9, l893 After an illness of ten days WILLIAM C. HEBENER paid nature's final debt, passing away at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. Though MR. HEBENER had been but a short time in Woodland, his upright conduct and gentlemanly demeanor had won the high regard of those with whom he was thrown in contact by business intercourse. Several months ago he came to Woodland from his Iowa home and started a marble yard. It was his intention to send for his family as soon as the winter was over and two months ago a son, C.H. Hebener, came to aid his father in his business. A peculiarly sad feature of his death was the absence of his entire family with the exception of the one son. MR. HEBENER was born in Lexington, Kentucky, December 24, l840. When a young man he moved to Virginia, where he was married. His surviving family consists of a wife and eight children, now living in Leon, Iowa. MR. HEBENER was a Grand Army man, having served two years in the First Virginia Cavalry as First Sergeant. For many years he has been afflicted with bronchitis and it was this lung trouble that made him an easy victim to the fatal pleuro-pneumonia. The body will be embalmed and taken east in charge of his son, C.H. HEBENER, who expects to leave Woodland Friday morning. In this connection C.H. HEBENER wishes to express his heartfelt thanks for the many acts of kindness shown by the people of Woodland during his father's fatal illness. --Woodland (Cal.)
