Hi there I have found a Columbus Gulline on the Ancestry.com website. Birth place is Kentucky and they were 17 in 1910 (approx.). They stayed with a family called Wilson and may have been related to the head of the household Girthie Wilson. I would love to know anything about Columbus and he is a new Gulline for me, for example, parents, spouse, children. Could someone please tell me where to start looking. Thank you in advance. I am looking for a marriage record for John A. Logan Ray & Mary Pearl Armstrong Sept. 3 1913. Bible records say they were married in Jeffersonville, In. Where can I find this record? I am not familiar with Indiana records? Annette
Debbie, This came from another list. Any chance this could be your family? I know some of my Nelson County line ended in Putnam County. Dear Chuck and Lists, While surfing on the net doing my usual Genealogy search looking for information, I ran across something that might be helpful to you and those interested in Genealogy and those who are not. Its a site that I had never seen before. It's concerning Kentucky Civil War History and all other types of Genealogy information. It is listed below. It sounds like a funny name and I surely thought that until it explains on their page what the meaning is. Those from Kentucky will know immediately. Its www.Burgoo.com Go to this page and see the links and it will mainly show Kentucky, however if you click on the link that says Kentucky in the Civil War, it will say "Free Lookup's for " The War of the Rebellion" and it will take you to that link and person. I assume that they would be happy to look up anything, not just Kentucky." Believe that book is out of publication. If you are into Genealogy there is a link there to click on for Kentucky Genealogy and it will link you to all the counties and all types of great information that we as Genealogy people look for, such as Census, Cemeteries, Marriages, and etc. Have a good time searching! Listmembers: In regards to the recent outbreak of viruses, all that can be done is being done as far as the lists go. Most of us know that some of these ARE coming through the list and not as replies whether or not they are suppose to or not. Actually I think that is a rather moot point right now. The fact is that they are getting out to everyone. I am the listowner for about 17 lists and fortunately it has only affected 4 of them and those only briefly. So far, the procedure I have been applying is working. Here would be my advice regarding any of these postings: 1. Get a good virus scan 2. Anything with a mailing list address that has an attachment, DELETE IT (this means anything with the preface in the subject line of your mailing list's name) 3. Send me the email of the sender, I will unsub them immediately and put out a list message so others won't open anything from that address. 4. After deleting the messages from your list, also DELETE YOUR DELETED ITEMS FOLDER OR TRASH. 5. As an avid researcher myself, I know that sometimes sending files/attachments is a must. Please follow these guidelines to assure the best caution: a) Let persons know in a previous email that you will be sending them an attachment (specify that it will be in the next email, possibly giving them a subject line for it) b) Insist that they do the same. c) Develop a "trusted core" group of persons that you will accept from and make no exceptions. d) Keep in contact with these persons regularly so you will know if they have had any viruses recently. e) Send what you can in text format, not using an attachment. f) With this group of persons that you DO accept attachments from, create a system that would be known between you. For example: something specific in the subject line or maybe, as one man I exchange with does, he places this BEFORE any saluation in the body of the message-- "One(or whatever) attachments included" then he addresses me. This lets me know that if I don't see that in the beginning of the text and there is an attachment...it isn't his. g)Alot of persons I am in constant exchange with, I also talk with on the Instant Messenger. We will tell each other if we are sending them an attachment. h) FOR ANYONE WHO DOESN'T HAVE OR CAN'T GET A VIRUS SCAN.... Yahoo Mail is set up so that it has a McAfee/Norton virus scan on it. It automatically scans any attachment, coming in or going out, BEFORE OPENING. It may be a good idea to set up an account through Yahoo temporarily and use it only for having your attachments sent to. Lastly.... I know it is difficult to see an attachment that might be "the one answer" you are searching for and have to delete it....BUT please stop and think... IS GAINING THAT ONE PIECE OF INFO THAT ATTACHMENT "MIGHT" CONTAIN WORTH LOSING EVERYTHING IN MY SYSTEM. We on the mailing lists must be doubly careful, as we are dealing with MANY unknown persons and also we are connected through the lists to many persons, and we don't want to infect anyone else by opening something that would then be transmitted. Yes do not open, and don't send another e-mail to them that the attachment didn't work, you will get another one. there are three sites with free virus protection, and I got one of then that detected the 4 worms from opening 4 of the attachments from 2 people who had the worm, it looks like they are answering your reply with an attachment. the anti virus software for free you have to put AVG in the search box, and it comes up and you can go to the link. if you go thru the Rootsweb sites, they don't even accept attachment, so that is the safe way to not get the worm. For Michele, Thank so much for the information from the census. All of those people you mentioned spelled their names with two T's. I know the census workers were not always as accurate as we would have liked them to be. I found her on the 1860 census and she was 18 yrs old which would have been just about right and the name was spelled with one T. Haven't been able to find her on any other census. Thanks so much for your hard work. Fern
Debbie: Someone explained this better than I can but this is a "worm" that attaches itself to messages you send out...it's not going through Rootsweb but if you post a message to someone on the list who has the virus / worm and they answer back......unbeknownst to them, the worm sends another message to the person they answered with the attachment. It uses that person's name but they don't even know it's being sent......Just don't open attachments unless you are SURE what it is. I am looking for my husband's ancestor who served with the Twenty-third Kentucky Infantry. "The camp of organization was Camp King, near Covington. The companies came from that part of the state, one being from Mason county, one from Pendleton and one being from Boone; the others from Campbell and Kenton. The 23d was recruited and organized by Col. Marc Mundy." [This info supplied by Gloria Rose-Gialdella] My husband's GG-Grandfather, Henry Speyer (sometimes spelled Speier), served Kentucky, was commissioned as Captain, D Company, 23rd Infantry Regiment. He resigned on 08 June 1862 [Source: Report of the Adjutant General of the State of Kentucky (Published by Harney, 1866)] . Also, according to "Union Regiments of Kentucky," he was captain of Company D. The above information was provided me by a friend. Family stories say that he was with the 23rd Volunteer Infantry from Indiana (this unit joined with a unit out of Paducah, KY), but as you can see, this was incorrect. His children were born in Kentucky and Iowa, but I have no idea where!?! Ancestry.com has his pension record as serving with Kentucky, and his widow as applying for benefits in Indiana. He was a member of (The Henry Speyer) Post 489 G.A.R out of Culver, Marshall County, IN. At ancestry.com, I found the following SPEYER families in Kentucky. 1870 SPEYER JULIUS Fayette County KY 191 1 W. Lexington Federal Population Schedule KY 1870 Federal Census Index KY519147504 1860 SPEYER JAMES Jefferson County KY 303 1 W Louisville Federal Population Schedule KY 1860 Federal Census Index KY107115056 Are these counties close to the counties that made up the 23rd? Thanks so much for any geography/genealogy information anyone can help me out on! Fredreica [email protected] Fredreica I am searching [email protected]

Just following up on my previous post about the pesky virus. I am and was virus free so I AM NOT the person infected, it is some one else on the list. Everyone should run their Virus Scan as soon as possible.
This is for the list owner. I received today, two emails referring to my two messages I posted yesterday in reference to Ellen Mathews and it repeated my messages and then ask me to "Look to the attachment". I am afraid this was the virus that is going around some of the lists. I did not open it of course and deleted it immediately but I'm still concerned it may have infected me. I am going to run my Virus Scan right now. You may want to put out a warning to your list. Fern
