    1. [KENTUCKIANA-L] Olene and Pauline McCoy
    2. downs
    3. I am looking for Pauline McCoy and/or her descendants. She was probably born sometime between 1905 to 1910, somewhere in Eastern Kentucky. Her older sister, Eva Olene McCoy was born in 1904 and was "adopted" from her natural parents, when she was a small girl, by Mr. and Mrs. Parks and brought to Lyon Co., Kentucky were they lived. I am a descendant of Olene's daughter's family. Olene's name was never changed to Parks....she continued to use the McCoy name and as far as we know she never had contact from any of her family from Eastern Kentucky. I know this isn't much information but maybe someone will connect. You can reach me at [email protected] Janie McKinney Downs

    1. [KENTUCKIANA-L] Civil War Pension Records
    2. Genealogy libraries have records of who received pensions from the Civil War, but the full records are available only from NARA. I recently waited for over four months for my great-grandfather's records. Because the Department of Interior first denied my great-grandmother's widow's pension and she had to appeal, I got 298 pages, including pages & pages of personal depositions for $33 & postage. It was well worth the wait.

    2. They have the Civil War pensions in Fort Wayne, IN, and other places besides the NARA. When I go to KY later this year I'll see if they have them in KY also. The Archives may just have them. Teddy

    2. Listmembers, I am receiving alot of bounced messages from persons with accounts at both: msn.com and hotmail.com I don't know if there is a problem with the server or the individuals. However, normally when there is a group of them together, it is the server itself. If you do have either of these servers, please contact me privately to let me know that you are still functional. Also there seems to be some confusion as to who the List Owner currently is. You are still stuck with me....I went on vacation and my father watched the list. I have been back for a few weeks now. I am sure you all saw the roll call posting last weekend. Debbie [email protected] "Following the footprints through time"

    1. [KENTUCKIANA-L] Jesse Louis Robinson, Louis and Mary Robinson....UPDATE!!!!!!!!
    2. Steve Robinson
    3. NEW INFORMATION: What everyone initally thought is now somewhat confirmed. As I said before, my great grandfather Jesse or Jessie Louis Robinson was born on May 9, 1890 in Hopkinsville, Kentucky...and his parents were Louis/Lewis and Mary Robinson... However, according to my father, he left the Hopkinsville area as a small child...quite possibly before the 1900 Census...and "with both parents"...back in those days, people tended to stay together... I also found out that my great grandfather Jesse or Jessie Louis Robinson had an older brother by the name of Arthur Robinson and another brother by the name of Louis Robinson, Jr. All three were born in the Hopkinsville area in the latter part of the 19th Century.... Steve -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Saturday, June 23, 2001 7:34 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [KYCHRIST] Louis Robinson, KY For Steve - I looked at the 1900 census for KY. There are several Afro-American Louis/Lewis Robinson families in KY but not in Christian Co. that I could find. I did find a Jesse Robinson, born Jul 1899, in Bourbon KY. However, he was listed under another family and written across the entry was see sheet 6, district 5. I couldn't find that sheet - rather didn't know how to find that sheet since it was electronic images and only took me to this one page. Are you sure your Louis was in Christian Co.? 3. Dear Bill and Joyce, I'm not complaining about their products, I'm complaining about they way they handle things. Let's look at it from a different angle. Let's say you go to your local gas station and pull into the full-service lane. You ask the attendant how much for unleaded gas and he replies, "$2.00 per gallon." You tell him to fill-up your gas tank and then you pay with your gas credit card expecting the price to be $2.00 per gallon. Two months later you receive your bill and you notice that you were charged $3.00 per gallon. You call the credit card company to correct the mistake, but they tell you that you should have read the terms and conditions. If you had you would have noticed that they can change the price anytime, and you are agreeing to those price changes everytime you purchase gas. Or, they tell you that you should have contacted them within 30 days but now they can't help you because it's been 60 days. You try to explain that you just received your bill, but they just will not listen. It has nothing to do with the product, but everything to do with how they handle their business. What burns me the most is that I know that there is a lot of older people who depend on this service. It's like a life line to many who are home bound or that do not drive. How many of them have been stuck with charges that they didn't agree to? How many tried to complain and were told that they should have read the fine print? How many paid because they loved the site and they felt it was worth any price just to have an outside connection for their genealogy research? Enough said. Dianne

    1. Re: [KENTUCKIANA-L] Ancestry.com
    2. Let me add some caution as to the information on Ancestry.Com. In searching some of their marriage records for Claiborne County, TN they have no Kings listed. However there may have been as many as 10 or more King marriages that should have been listed. Could they have omitted data on their other data bases? YES. So whenever possible, local records still need to be researched because of possible transcription errors and omissions. What bothered me the most was the fact that I was ignored when I tried to inform them of their error in the Claiborne County Marriages. I received some form email that did not address the problem at all. When I replied to their response, I still received a form email that did not respond to the problem. So I quit responding. I suppose they disregard any errors. Yes, I still have a subscription to ancestry.com. The difference is now I do not assume their data bases to be correct or complete. I use it as a source, but not a reliable one. Doyle King

    3. Ancestry is receiving a bashing on many of the lists over the last couple of days. Everyone's opinion being their own and for what its worth I have found ancestry well worth the money because I can access records in states where I'd never be capable of getting to without them. I have subbed for the last 3 years and will continue my subscription. I began searching 30 years ago when it wasn't easy to travel between geographical locations....much less from state to state. Ancestry who merged with rootsweb GIVES us the opportunity to freely use the lists and search thousands of records in rootsweb in an effort to pursue a hobby or in some cases a profession. Thanks to ancestry I was able to break down a 30 year old brick wall which would never have happened otherwise...my family had moved from S. Carolina to Kentucky, to Indiana, to Illinois then back to Tennessee...how else would I have ever known? Joyce G. 3. Amen! Ancestry is well worth TWICE the price. I think some of these people who complain against Ancestry haven't had to drive 170 miles one way to the genealogical library, feed countless quarters in the copier and microfilm machines. Try paying the dues at the local genealogical society and all the other money we put out. Ancestry is under-charged! 3. Could someone who has access to Census Records please do a lookup for me. In Jefferson County, IN - 1820, 1830, and 1850 Census. Looking for records on a George Campbell. Also, in Crittenden County, KY - 1870 Census. Records on a George Campbell. Thanks so very much. My sisters and I have been looking for the past 3 years in Indiana, Kentucky and Illinois. So far, no luck. My George Campbell was born in April 1864, so he would have been 6 years old at the time of the KY Census, but I was thinking maybe his father's name was the same. I know this is like grasping at straws, but so far, this is the only hope we have. Thanks so much for any help anyone can give me!!! 1. [KENTUCKIANA-L] Jefferson County Cemeteries
    2. Wanted to ask fellow Jefferson County KY area researchers the following: Are you aware of any cemeteries in Jefferson County which do not have a listing of what visible burials are located there? (as in, transcribing tombstone writings in list) I am being asked if there are any from a student who wants to complete a project which would be beneficial to others related to genealogy. Please email me personally if you are aware of any. Thanks. Melissa

LEVI SETTLED ON THE OHIO THERE AND OPERATED A FERRY ACROSS THE OHIO IN ABOUT 1805. I WOULD APPRECIATE ANY INFORMATION ABOUT BOTH FAMILIES AS I AM TRYING TO UPDATE OUR GENEOLOGY. MY VISION IS SO POOR THAT IT IS DIFFICULT TO READ MOST OF THE INFO THAT IS ON THE INTERNET. IF YOU COULD PUT ME IN TOUCH WITH RELATIVES OF EITHER FAMILY IT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. I AM PARTICULARLY INTERESTED IN ANY INFORMATION OF LEVI'S AND HUGH'S OCCUPATIONS AND LIVES. ANYTHING WILL BE GREATELY APPRECIATED, THANKS VERY MUCH
