    1. [KENTUCKIANA-L] Lula Jackson Bailey
    2. Vicki Swepston
    3. Hello List Viewers, Searching for any and all information on Lula "Jackson" Bailey. I am told she is listed in Magoffin Co. 1900 Census as living with Polly Jackson (Mary "Pop" Minix Jackson), age 68, and that she was 14 yrs. old and born April 1886. I am also told that in Magoffin Marriages she is listed as marrying Riley Bailey on Feb. 28, 1901 and that one of the witnesses was Estill Jackson, who is elsewhere listed by individuals doing research on the Bailey family lines as Lula's father. I know that Estill was the son of "Polly" (or Mary Pop Minix) listed above as Lula's residence in the census. My question is this: I am a descendant of Estill Jackson and Rennie Vanderpool. They were my great grandparents. However the only children that I have ever known of them having were: 1. Maude, 2. Warren P. 3. Butler K., 4. Harry, and 5. Leemire. I have no records of them having a daughter named Lula and can only assume that if Estill was her father, she was born from a previous marriage or union. If anyone can give me any information regarding this, it would be greatly appreciated. 1. [KENTUCKIANA-L] Burnadeen Jackson - Mother Billie Arnett
    2. Vicki Swepston
    3. Hello List Viewers, I am trying to find any and all information about a "Burnadeen Jackson" (maiden name) whose father was Leemire (sometimes known as Lee or "Red") Jackson (born: Aug. 17, 1912, probably in Magoffin County KY, and died Feb. 27, 1976). Burnadeen's mother was Bonnie Arnett of Magoffin Co., or surrounding area. (I have no dates, or family information for Bonnie, but would like any information anyone might have.) Burnadeen was born in 1935, and is quite possibly still living. If so, she would be approximately 66 years old. Burnadeen was my grandfather's niece, (my 1st cousin, once removed), and the only other descendant of my great-grandparents Estill Jackson and Rennie Vanderpool (Leemire's parents) besides me and my children, though Estill and Rennie had 5 children. No other children left descendants. Leemire was married 4 times. Bonnie Arnett was his first wife, (date of marriage unknown). Later he married Pinkie Looney (with whom he had a son, who died at age 3, named Robert Lee), then Mary L. (don't know last name), and finally Alka Risner Howard. I know Alka was from Pike County Ohio, and Pinkie and Mary may have been also, or from Scioto County. Lee lived in Pike County, in the Camp Creek area, many years before his death. We had relatives in Scioto County with whom he stayed at times. If anyone knows any information about any of the people listed here, I would greatly appreciate if you would contact me. I may even be able to find information about Burnadeen through the family of a later wife. Thank You, Vicki Swepston Pike County, Ohio [email protected] Researching: Call, Dean, Everetts, Fairchild, Gleason, Jackson, Lawson, May, Medley, Miner, Minix, Powers, Rice, Swiger and Vanderpool. 1. [KENTUCKIANA-L] BALDWIN / DEARSON
    2. Janet Zengel Messer
    3. I am trying to learn more about my great great grandparents, Charles Henry BALDWIN and Anna DEARSON. From newspaper obituaries and census records, we have learned the following: Charles Henry BALDWIN - born March 9, 1831 in Henderson County, Kentucky; father born in New Jersey, mother in Maryland (names unknown); moved to Louisville, where children Newell, Sally, William J., Minnie Josephine (my great grandmother), and Floyd W. were born; moved to Rice County, Kansas in 1878; died June 15, 1914.. Anna DEARSON - born in Indiana; supposedly died in 1872 in Louisville, but Charles reported that he was still married in the 1880 census. If anyone knows anything about the Baldwins or Dearsons, I would greatly appreciate hearing from them. Thank you. Regards, Janet Zengel Messer Micanopy, Florida

    1. [KENTUCKIANA-L] re: virus on my computer
    2. I just wanted to update everyone. I upgraded my McAfee program and ran a scan of virus. It has taken about 3 1/2 hours to scan. It found "7" virus' called M32/BadTrans. I have removed them all. After reading all the (a ton of them I might add) email's from everyone, I just wanted to let you know that the virus was not something I downloaded, it was sent attached to a email address from a family member of mine. Once it was on my computer, it hooked it self to every email address I had. It doesn't do anything bad (from my understanding) but just causes a big headache. Just thought I would share what had happened. 2. Diana Boothe
    3. Hello everyone, I know this is futile, but I am trying again. :-) I am searching for the parents of William A. Wilson, born in (I believe, Clark County) Indiana in around 1881, married several times, first to a Paralee Stodghill (before 1908), and died in Arkansas in 1953. I have been told he was an only child, so I feel, with 1890 census records gone, I will never find his parents. Any help would be greatly appreciated! 1. [KENTUCKIANA-L] attn list manager.....urgent please read!
    2. First, I want to say I am sorry for sending out a email in one group message, but I wasnt going to type this 30 times. Dear list manager, Please remove me from your list for now. It seems that there is a nasty person going through the mailing list and sending out some kind of virus. I have been getting all kinds of email from strangers telling me to "take a look at this file and give me your advice". It requires you to download it. I have not been doing so. I have been deleting the email instead of downloading. Some how, this person(s) has been able to get a hold of my email list form my computer and has been sending the same emails to my family and friends. Some of them with private emails (from work) that are not searchable on the net. Here is a copy of a note I sent to AOL in this problem (it also shows some of the emails I was sent and so were my family and friends): Hello, I don't know what to do. I am getting email like this from a number of different email address'. To make things worse, this person has , somehow, been able to send the same mail to email address' on my buddy list. How is that possible? Some of the email address' I have on my buddy list are through private organizations (work) and not available to the internet public. But these person's are getting them. How do I fix this problem? 3. Help!! I am at a Dead end with my G-Grandfather. Harold S Galt, my grandfather, indicated on his marriage application (Indianapolis, IN - Aug 19, 1883) to Melissa Alice Williams that his parents were William Galt and Margaret Malone, and that he was born in Kentucky November 25, 1855. Family tradition is that he was from the Louisville area. Similar information was given in the Indiana census of 1900, 1910, and 1920. Birth certificate of his last son Robin indicates that Harry was born in Indiana. His death certificate containing information given by his son Boone indicates that he was born in Frankfort, KY There has been a tradition that we are related to Dr. William Galt, proprietor of the Galt House in Louisville. I have been unable to find any support for this. It seems to be wishful thinking, unless Grandpa Harry was a love child. Any help that I can get at this point will be appreciated. Thanks, Larry

Re Crawford Co.....I've recently traced brother of one of my distant Aunts, Cara Virginia (Alexander) Murphy to Leavenworth in Crawford Co....he was Sterling Alexander but not certain of exact time period; likely early 1900's. Balance of this branch of my MURPHY line had been in Meade 1868 onward & Brandenburg Co 1900>. I'll look for Ann Crecelius on the Crawford Co BB with rootsweb. Thanks again for your kindness. 3. Names included in following narration: CALDER/COLDER, DANFORTH, DOANE, DUNN, GIBBONS, GIVENS, HARRIS, HAWKINS, ROBINSON, TARRANT, WYMAN Places included: Arkansas, Indian Territory, Maryland, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Texas This narration is to setup the situation for the sake of giving background for the reader. We start with a young couple leaving the northeast and traveling down toward Texas. On a river in Ohio, near Cincinnati, he falls off and drowns. She may have stopped for a while somewhere along the way in one of these states: Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Missouri ending up in Arkansas Territory. We believe her to be an Elizabeth Harris (b. 1811) from New York State of Native American descent. {Looking for more information on her and her family.} We know she was in Arkansas when she had two or more children with the last name of DANFORTH. It is rumored that the father of her children is an Asa DANFORTH of Maryland. The children are Martha, Mary, possibly an Anne and one boy. Martha (1825) was born at Ft. Smith, Sebastian Co., Ark., and Mary (1831) at Ft. Gibson of Indian Territory now in Muskogee Co., Ok. Elizabeth is next located in Texas with the last name of DOANE (1860 cen.) or DUNN (1870 cen.). Her new husbands name is rumored to be a William DOANE or DUNN, he is not listed in the census. There are children with her in the 1860 census with the last name of DOANE, a T.J. (23 b. Ark) and Abner (18 b. Ark.). In the 1880 census, Elizabeth is living with a granddaughter in Waxahachie, Ellis, TX. Nothing is known of her death and Asa DANFORTH is a complete mystery. Martha DANFORTH possibly arrived in Texas sometime in 1842/43 or she might have been in Ark., or the Indian Territory waiting to join her husband. She was the wife of a Dr. William CALDER/COLDER of Kentucky and was part of the Peters Colony. In Feb. of 1843 Dr. Calder, while traveling from Cedar Springs(now Dallas), Dallas Co., TX to Ft. English(Bonham), Fannin Co., TX was killed by Indians in Colin Co., TX and was buried there. {Looking for more information on where Martha was at this time and when or where their only child, a boy, was born.} All we have of this union is a probate record of Dallas county naming Martha’s second husband (Elisha S. WYMAN) as the administrator. The child is listed as W.L.C. WYMAN in the 1850 census, assumption is that the C. stands for CALDER/COLDER. We have several references of this Wyman family unit in counties of the Dallas, Hill, Ellis, Navarro areas. Elisha(b.1811) is of Maine and was part of Mercer's colony, he died in Jan. 1853 Hill Co., TX at which point they had two children, Susanna Smith WYMAN (b. 1848/49) and Mary Henrietta WYMAN (b. 1850) born in TX. In Dec. 1853 we find Martha married a James M. GIVENS/GIBBONS in Ellis Co. TX. There was a probate for Elisha WYMAN (1854) listing James GIVENS/GIBBONS as guardian and administrator. Martha died in the mid to late 1850’s in or near Ft. Belknap, Young Co., TX. James is known to have been involved with the army possibly even as a Quarter Master. In the 1860 census James was listed as married to someone else. As far as we know there weren't any children of this union. W. L. C. WYMAN disappears at this point in time. {Looking for information to fill in the blanks.} Mary DANFORTH visited her sister, Martha, and brother-in-law, Elisha S. WYMAN, in 1850 and at that time she met her first husband, Gen. Edward H. TARRANT. Mary and Gen. TARRANT were married on 6 April 1851 in Navarro Co., TX. When sister Martha died, General and Mary TARRANT fetched the WYMAN children and brought them back to Navarro Co., TX and to take care of them. Gen. TARRANT died in 1858. Mary remarried in Nov. 1859 to a James Emerson HAWKINS. Mary and James had children of their own and also took turns raising one of Mary's nieces, the WYMAN daughters, with Grandmother Elizabeth. James E. HAWKINS was also the administrator of the WYMAN girl’s estate. Mary died on 15 Feb. 1891 and J. E. HAWKINS died in 1912. The WYMAN girls grew up and married brothers, Susannah married William Allen ROBINSON (m. 1871 Tarrant Co., TX) and Mary Henrietta married Elisha Zachary Taylor ROBINSON (m. 1869 Ellis Co., TX). I am a descendant of Susannah and William Allen. We have a bit of information on this line, but would love to find out more on cousins and other relatives. This whole thing is to hopefully gain more information on Elizabeth HARRIS and Asa DANFORTH. Marriage records for Martha and Dr. William CALDER/COLDER and Elisha S. WYMAN. Information regarding the CALDER/COLDER ancestors and descendants would be wonderful. If anyone reading this has any information regarding this saga, or any light they could shed on the family or parts of it, would put me in heaven (not literally, I hope). Thank you, Gayle [email protected]

    2. Marian Dunlap
    3. Michele, There are some sites on the Internet which give quite a bit of information about the Melungeons. According to what I have read the people were a mixture of several different nationalities and even different races, including Indian, Negro and whites from different backgrounds. I believe this is why you find different members of the same family listed in different ways, even though their heritage is the same. It seems, also, that how they are listed may depend on the individual who was writing about the person, whether a census, marriage record or what. Of course in North Carolina, for instance, a white could not marry into another race until not too many years ago. A friend has been tracing an ancestor whose mother was Indian, and the father white, yet he passed for white at least twice in the marriage records in North Carolina, but on census he might be shown as mulatto! People of mixed race often tried to pass him/herself off as white, and I read that this was the reason many of them moved westward, often changing their names in order to lose that stigma that went with the name Melungeon. Some believe they started out as descendants of a very early Portugese colony. Marian
