Where did the name come from?? There was a Gholson/Gholston STEPP/STAPP who was prominent in the Stepp/Stapp line in the early 1700s...Does anyone have record of a STEPP/STAPP marrying a George NUTTERFIELD, or a McWilliams, in KY or WV., in the mid to late 1700's? I have a Nancy W McWilliamss who marrried a George NUTTERFIELD in 1804 in Shelby Co., KY., but, apparently her maiden name might have been STEPP/STAPP... Can anyone help???

I'm trying to find the family of Elizabeth GILPIN m. Noah HAYDEN 23 May 1804 Mercer Co.KY. In 1788 Elizabeth entered into an agreement with Noah to raise his two children, and keep house for him. By 1804 she had married him, and by that time had 3 children with him and had three more after that time. It would seem that Elizabeth only being 17 or 18 years old when she started working for Noah, she took part of her payment in Land and aquired several acres and had animals and household goods of her own when they did marry....as she continued to buy land before and after their marriage. It would only seem reasonable that her family had lived in the Mercer Co. area or somewhere close, possibly both parents having died of disease or some other malady...having left Elizabeth with the need to take care of herself at an early age. If anyone has a GILPIN family that has an Elizabeth in it around the age of mine, I would appreciate hearing from you....or if anyone has any ideas of where else or whatelse I could do to track her family down, please let me know, as I'm open to any suggestions. Thanks so much, N.J.Skinner White in MI [email protected]
