Hi Everyone, Today I went to the Ky History Center (KHS) here and they have on display a few artifacts from a 200 year old cemetery that a construction company unexpectedly unearthened right in the middle of Frankfort last year, while building the new Transportation Cabinet building. This was an old cemetery of about 200 graves. They believe it was the "orginial" Frankfort Cemetery. No one seems to know why or how it became FORGOTTEN, but it did! What moved me the most about the display, was the condition of the teeth these people had back then. They had more absesses than you can imagine. Can you imagine having a horrible tooth ache and either couldn't afford a dentist or there were none around? Whew!! Wow No wonder so many drank moonshine or whisky. I can see it happening. On the 1870 Census, in Vienna Twnsp, Scott County, Indiana Zachariah COMBS (b.1836), Jackson COMBS (b. 1830), and William COMBS (b. 1834) are listed next to each other. William is a gggrandfather of mine. I believe their father to be a John COMBS that purchased property in Scott county in 1848, but no solid proof. Does anyone else have connections with this family? Thank you, Bonny Logsdon Burns Wilmington, NC

The Annual Allen Family Reunion The Annual Allen Family Reunion for descendants of Amos Milroy Allen (1886-1961) and his wife, Ida Zolula (Blankenbaker) Allen (1887-1969) will be held on Sunday, Father's Day, June 20, 2004 at the Hindsboro, Douglas County, Illinois Village Park. We will probably start eating at around 12:30. This is a pot-luck, carry-in lunch. Please bring your own table service, table cloths, lawn chairs, and etc., plus a dish to share. There is a playground for the kids and shade for the older folks! This date is a change from the usual last Sunday in June, to allow for several of us to attend a special Stewart Family Reunion in Scottsburg, Indiana on Sunday, June 27, 2004. Amos Milroy Allen, mentioned above was the son of Riley S. Allen and his wife, Catharine "Katie" (Stewart) Allen. This Family Homecoming in Scottsburg is a gathering of Stewart and related families who have recently become acquainted over the internet at the James Stewart website. It will include family history sharing, research opportunities, and cemetery tours. For anyone interested in further information, please contact: David Kent Coy at 123 North 20th Street, Decatur, IL 62521-2114, (217) 420-4378, davidkentcoy@mcleodusa.net
The note below arrived today from the National President of The Boone Society. At the request of The National President, the Honorable Rocehelle Evans Cochran of Arkansas, I am sharing this information with you. Rochelle is a direct descendant of Edward. The website is www.boonesociety.org Best wishes to All, Cousin Ivan D. Lancaster, Member of The Board of Directors of The Boone Society Sixth Great Grandson of Edward 'Ned' Boone. (Edward is the brother of Daniel Boone, The Famous Frontiersman.) ############################################################### Tim Resse has just completed uploading an article I have written about Edward Boone to our webpage. This is something I've had planned for about 4 years -- don't know why it has taken me so long. Anyway, it is my intention that anyone who joins as a descendant of Edward or anyone else who asks for information for Edward can be directed to the site. Please read it and let me know if you have comments or questions. Each of you is invited to write an article about a Boone for this site -- either your ancestor, or just a Boone in whom you have a particular interest. I am publishing a Compass article in July about Squire Boone (Daniel's brother) , History of The Ohio Falls Cities and Their Counties, Vol. 1, published at Cleveland O., by L. A. Williams & Co., 1882. So, I may have Tim put that on the webpage once it appears in Compass. Our new life members, Squire Boone Caverns, should be pleased that a story of Squire (Jr) is on our webpage. Rochelle
I wish to thank everyone who wrote saying such lovely things about my poem, "My Ancestor Grandmother", and especially to those asking if they could share it with other groups. I am very honored. This genealogy poem is my gift to everyone for Mother's Day. I think many of you will be able to relate to it. (My poetry has been published in 47 US States, and several other countries. ) My Poetry Website: http://users.rosenet.net/poetryandroses/ (This remains one of my favorite poems) MY ANCESTOR GRAND MOTHER I search for you yet do not even know your name I press on praying my efforts will prove fruitful the records do not list you or the other women who have lived and loved and laughed, gave birth, and died, the records perpetrate the myth that you were never here but I stand whole and bare my soul and vow to find you as I live I search for you in old records, in churches, at the Embassy, in small dimly lit rooms in the back of obscure libraries and archives and pour over barely readable handwritten ledgers with magnifying glass and flashlight I live on mainly toast these days there isn't time for meals or much sleep feeling as I always do, on the very brink of discovery Perhaps THIS will be the day I find the one seemingly insignificant clue, which will lead me to you although I did not find you listed in the Census Records I am not deterred, you may turn up yet, on an Immigration or Naturalization list somewhere perhaps, or maybe tucked away inside some bank of vital statistics, long forgotten like so many others, your name having become lost over the long years Your name could be lying even now amidst the millions of documents stored and locked away safeguarded in the bowels of a giant warehouse all stopped up from apathetic crowds who have long ceased their visits your precious name, lying just inside a myriad of records packed in tight, packed in to stay never guessing I would come @Sarah Elizabeth Rose srose@rosenet.net
This topic appears to be flying around the lists - again. Please do not discuss this ON list! Here is the information as I understand it now. If you have questions regarding the service, check the Ancestry website. From List Aministrators List information and discussion: Ancestry is *not* charging for access to trees or selling trees: access will remain free from both the RootsWeb and Ancestry side as it has always been. (These are the Ancestry World Tree and the Rootsweb WorldConnect trees) OneWorldTree is a unique and totally separate thing. What Ancestry is offering, for an extra charge, is access to a special search engine to search the trees for you. Folks can still search the Ancestry trees or World Connect trees manually or browse the trees for free the same way they always have. OneWorldTree does two things. First, it searches family history records. It does not modify or replace the original records. Second, it compiles the information in an effort to group the ones that go with a given person (a process they call "stitching"), and provides references to the original sources. Think of it as a research assistant: you can hire someone to help you look for your ancestors, or you can research yourself for free. Hiring a human research assistant doesn't sell them the data being researched, or change the rules so that only they are allowed to look. That's essentially what it is, except that it's computerized, not human. (With thanks to Piglet!) Pat Mount List Admin
And we are packing our bags to be present at this event, staying at the Tompkinsville Inn, where the managers are most pleasant! It was great fun last year - the park is beautiful and so many pioneer crafts and events are planned this year.We will have our Boone and Pennington family descendants portraying an 1804 wedding in the Old Mulkey Meeting House at 3 p.m. and afterwards, the family reunions of descendants of all worshippers of that 1804 period. Looking forward to meeting new cousins! Family Historian and Genealogist, J.
