Please someone tell me where Union Chapel Cemetery is? Is there more than one in the Central Tn- Ky area? Linda, Bethpage, Tn Thanks __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Mail has the best spam protection around http://mail.yahoo.com
Many of you are probably still wondering what has happened to your list mail over the last couple of weeks. Rootsweb was bringing a new server on-line and it took some time to get lists switched over, etc. The latest information from Rootsweb is shown below. Mail Lists: 2004-07-31 All list servers operational The remaining list server has been brought back on-line and we are currently putting mail through all lists servers. There is a backlog of mail to put through the server that has been out of action, and this will take the best part of a day. Please note that the mail will not be in chronological order as that will then take the better part of a week to get it distributed. Est. downtime: 1 day(s) In the future if you think there is a problem with delivery of list mail you can check it out by going to Rootsweb.com, then "Contact the Help Desk". On that page there are yellow boxes that contain announcements and things such as status of lists (if there are problems.) If there is nothing to indicate a problem on the Rootsweb end, you should probably check with your ISP. So, get back to work folks......queries and information should start flowing again! I know it's summer and vacation time and even before the shut down there was not much activity on our lists. Surely some of you have questions or information to share! Pat Mount List Admin
With permission of the list owner, Pat Mount, I am posting this announcement. I write a genealogy column for the New Albany Tribune that uses free queries. If you have family that has ties with the following southern Indiana counties and would like to send ONE query to be published - SEND DIRECTLY TO ME (not the list) at bzuveri@bellsouth.net Queries will be used on a first come basis as space permits. Your NAME AND POSTAL ADDRESS MUST BE INCLUDED as not all my readers have e-mail. This is a good way to make contact with those researching your family lines who are not online. I will publish your e-mail address also. Please INCLUDE YOUR E-MAIL IN THE BODY OF YOUR QUERY MESSAGE. Please read the rules below: Queries are free and must have a date to establish a time period and a connection to Clark, Crawford, Floyd, Harrison, Jefferson, Orange, Perry, Scott or Washington Counties in Indiana. Send ONE query per e-mail to Vicky Zuverink at bzuveri@bellsouth.net Other queries in separate e-mail may be sent but will be used as space permits.
Well, I totally made a mistake that is one of my worst pet peeves..... I rushed to send a message on the new African American records site for KY and I FORGOT to put appropriate info in the subject line! Guess List Admins are only human too!*LOL* Now you may all collectively say "Ten lashes with a wet noodle"........ Pat Mount List Admin
Quoting from the site that Sherri has announced: "This site is dedicated to assisting all of those in pursuit of their African American ancestry in Kentucky by being a central depository for African American records thru out the state. By having this site as a centralized location for records such as deeds of manumission, land deeds and grants, slave records and narratives, colored marriage registers, cemetery listings, family histories and the like, those seeking information and those hitting that infamous ³brickwall² will have a place especially for the purpose of researching our African American documents of historical proportion which are one of the few sources available to us as researchers of the past. Considering this site will be used as a centralized collection for African American data, your contributions are extremely important. As always whatever you contribute will be listed as your contribution. Please help this site grow into a site that we as African Americans can call our home on the net; a place where our ancestors meet and call out for us to find them. Respectfully, The KY African American Griot's Founders" SO FOLKS, get out those "papers" and check to see if your KY ancestors mentioned their African American slaves by name in their wills, Bibles or other records and donate that information to the site. It doesn't do anyone any good if the information is locked away in your filing cabinet or on your personal hard drive! TIA, Pat Mount
Here's a new KYGenWeb Special Collections project - KY African-American Griots. From their introductory page to the site: "In early Africa, there were tribal members, called griot's (gree-oh), whose role was to pass on their tribes history from one generation to the next. They were the storytellers of the time and their role was to preserve the genealogies and traditions of the tribe. Today in America, we have those that we can call griot's also. They are the family members who thirst for knowledge of their ancestry. They bring life to their ancestors by their endless researching and pass it on so future generations will know their heritage." Founders of this new project are Charee Harvey and Jerry Taylor. The site is located at: <a href="http://www.rootsweb.com/~kyafamer/">PLEASE CLICK HERE</a> http://www.rootsweb.com/~kyafamer/ I know this site will be a boon to those with African American roots in KY. ~Sherri

Hello all, I was wondering if anyone has a connection to the Abney family which came from Virginia? I am researching the Abney's and would like to find someone with documention to the early generations. I have found that there are two major researchers with differing beliefs on who the children belong to. One say Lt. Paul Abney died without issue, the other says Lt. Paul is the father of George and his brother Dannett Abney raised him. I am interested if anyone has any thoughts or documentation on this. I do not have access to many Virginia documents. I am willing to share any Abney document I have. They can be accessed on my website: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~abneyresearch/ I started this site in November of 2003 and had to learn HTML as I went so now that I am familiar with HTML, there are a lot of changes being made to the site to make it easier to navigate and I have a volunteer webmaster who helps me. Please e-mail me if you have documents or suggestions or theories on the Abney generations. I would love to share info with you and discuss this further. I have been to Berea KY several times. It is bigger that what I consider a community. There is a college there. The reason that I made the statement about the Berea church in Mercer County is I remember going to a church in Mercer County a couple of times. Seems like the name of it was Berea Christian Church. I have a friend whose mother is buried in the cemetery there. I live in one of the adjoining counties to Mercer. Someone who lives in Mercer County can set us all straight. Hi Everyone! This is to announce my new Estes-Eastes Heritage web site that contain 6763 people divided into 1217 surnames. www.estes-eastes.com These pages represent the combined efforts of many people who have conscientiously recorded their family lines over the years. The purpose of this site is to consolidate these records into one place so that anyone may use them as a foundation for further personal research and expansion.. We begin with Nicholas Ewstas who was born in 1495 in Kent, England the oldest known person in our Estes/Eastes/etc line. The pages that follow are historic records of some his descendants. As we pass down through the generations we come to our progenitor, Abraham Estes, who migrated from England into the Colony of Virginia and was the father of 13 children. One of these was John Estes, Sr. father of Elisha Estes who migrated from Virginia to South Carolina then to Kentucky and Tennessee where he died in 1818. At the present, these records follow the descendants of Elisha as they move through Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, Indiana and beyond. This is just a beginning and that more records will be added in the future to include other descending lines from Abraham. Best Regards Roy Eastes USAF Retired See the "The Estes-Eastes Hertage pages @ www.estes-eastes.com ************************** If you tell the truth, you don't have to remember anything! - Mark Twain ********************** Remember the days of old, consider the years of many generations: ask thy father, and he will show thee; thy elders, and they will tell thee."
