    3. Hi Derek This is a confusing one! I think there are two Sarah Anns Lydes. In 1851 at Hawkesbury Street, St Mary, Dover are: Samuel Ponsford Ann Ponsford - Wife Elizabeth Lyde - Daughter, Unmarried, b 1838 London Middx Sarah Ann Marsh - Visitor, Unmarried, b 1833 Dover, Kent George Goodwin Rebecca Goodwin - Wife Sarah Loyd - Lodger, Widow, b 1807 New Romney, Laundress Edward Loyd - Son, Unmarried, b 1842 Dover Esther Loyd - Daughter, Unmarried, by 1846 Dover I think that the woman in 1861 with children Edward & Esther is Sarah Loyd (sic) b 1807 New Romney, taking some serious liberties about her age! I think that the woman who married James Lyde in Jun Qtr. 1851, Dover, was Sarah Ann Marsh b 1833 Dover. I can't find a suitable death for James yet. It looks as though the 'wife' of William Parker in 1881 & 1891 was Sarah Ann Lyde nee Marsh b 1833 Dover, but can't explain the Laura b Fareham problem. It would seem logical that this was Sarah Lyde, nee Marsh, at 1871 since they had a visitor Fanny Maria S Lyde aged 14 b Dover! N.B. This appears to be Fanny Maria Sladden Lyde reg. Sep 1856 Qtr. Dover district, ref: 2a 599. Familysearch.org has a chr for a Sarah Ann Marsh on 21 Sep 1834 at St Mary's Dover, parents Thomas & Maria Marsh. Hope this helps Sue -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of [email protected] Sent: 21 June 2012 18:01 To: [email protected] Subject: [KENT-ENG] PARKER/ MARSH : Dover area I have a link to William PARKER (born 1827) who married Sarah ISAAC in Biddestone, Wiltshire (1848). I have a solid history of them and their children through to 1861 census in Wiltshire. By 1871 census William appears to be in Canterbury with one of his daughters, also named Sarah. His wife on the census is shown to be Laura, born Fareham Hants. No trace of Sarah, his wife from Wiltshire. By 1881 (Dartford) and 1891 (Chadwell, Essex) census, his wife is stated to be Sarah, born in Dover c.1837/1838. No marriage has been found. There is good circumstantial evidence that the Dover Sarah is Sarah MARSH born Dover c.1838 (possibly JQ 1838 Eastry 5 145) who by 1861 census is Sarah LYDE. There is a possible marriage in JQ 1851 ...but that would make Sarah age 13 at marriage. Unlikely? My question to the list is .... Is there a village /hamlet in the Dover/Eastry area which sounds like "Fareham" and which the census enumerator may have interpreted as Fareham, Hampshire? This would at least explain the Laura problem! Thanks for reading this.
