Hi all, I am hoping someone might be able to help me out. I have an ancestor by the name of Henry Thomas Moore that I am trying to hunt down. He listed his parents as Thomas Moore (Labourer) and Hannah Treacy or Theacy on his wedding certificate. His age fluctuates a little bit from document to document, giving a birth year somewhere between 1848 to 1852. He mostly claims to have been born in Dover (although one document says Cambridge, which was a bit odd), and family anecdotes say Dover as well. He came to Australia - I think in 1866 - and married there in 1875. His parents remained in England, and family anecdote says that he exchanged letters with his mother for some time. Beyond that, its either been a blank wall or too many options. If this tickles anyone's memories, it'd be greatly appreciated :) thanks, Damien Moore Melbourne, Australia
Hi Damien,There are several people on Ancestry who have Henry Thomas on their tree. One gives a specific birth date of 14 feb 1850 in Canterbury, Kent However, this event is not sourced so you would need to investigate further to see whether this date is correct or not. The other trees give a year of birth as 1850 and only say that Henry was born in England. Again, these trees are not sourced so there is nothing to back them up at this stage. Lynda Ahunh, off to the library to use ancestry I should go. I am a bit suspicious of info there, legacy of a mispent youth and finding mostly american info :) 1850 could be the year of birth based off his death certificate, and 14th feb would match that too - he died Feb 28th at 96 in 1946. But there's only one Henry Moore registered in Kent in the first half of that year, and he's a Henry James, on Sheppey (freebmd.org.uk) thank you for the reply :) Damien > Date: Wed, 20 Jun 2012 15:29:29 +1000 >> From: [email protected] >> To: [email protected] >> Subject: [KENT-ENG] Moore family in Dover c 1850 onward? >> >> Hi all, >> >> I am hoping someone might be able to help me out.
