Would be grateful for any info on the family of Alfred (Staniford?) Smith who married Alice Maud Burton about 1902 in Gillingham?, Kent, England. He may have had a brother, William, who married Gladys Burton. The Burtons were originally from Essex. Thanks. Bob Foran

Hi Bob In 1891 Alfred's parents were at 47 Pier Road, Gillingham. Father Alfred b 1857 Mortlake, Surrey and mother Susanna b 1861 Maidstone, Kent. Son Alfred is not with them but they have son Charles b 1879 Gillingham and daughter Elizabeth b 1889 Gillingham. Had a quick look for son Alfred but can't find him. In 1901 Susanna is on her own with children (although says married)Charles b 1874 Gillingham, Alfred b 1880 Gillingham, Lizzie b 1889 Gillingham and William b 1893 Gillingham. There is a marr on FreeBMD for an Alfred Smith & Susan Staniford Mar Qtr. 1880 Medway district. The marr should be on Cityark and should give you details of their parents. Hi Bob, When did the Burtons come from Essex? I am looking for John Burton b. 1858c, his Australian Death Certificate has his father as William and that he also was born in Kent. John arrived in Australia 1881. Cheers, Christine, QLD
