They were from S&N. The paperwork for them says they can't be sold or even given away. They won't work on my new computer either. So annoying when they cost so much. Connie in London
Hi Connie and list, Quite a few things that were purchased in good faith that you would have your own personal references to aid research in various aspects of the hobby. Then you change your computer or are forced to do so when the machine malfunctions, then you get to realise you've got problems. Cyber life used to be fairly straightforward, but now there are all sorts of built in complications and of course money is to be made in providing you with the means to operate in the new computer environment. You used to get work programs factory loaded and now you find that such facilities only last for a trial period and then you have to pay up to get them permanently. Best, unless there is no alternative, keep you old computer and its peripherals rather than changing just to have the latest technology. I don't change my computer until I have to. I don't understand why people want all the newest machines, opersting systems, programs and so on when they have a perfectly good working system. I still have a computer that runs Windows 98 and another which has so little memory that if I open two documents at the same time it crashes. The S&N CDs have something on them that allows them to be associated to one computer only. They won't work if you try to use them on another one. I was using them on a computer I no longer have. I bought the CDs when the censuses weren't available online. Now they are I don't need the CDs. They are gathering dust. Maybe I can use them to corral the dust bunnies. Connie in London
Quite frankly I'd complain to to S & N or at least question them. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Connie" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, March 19, 2012 10:20 PM Subject: Re: [KENT-ENG] CENSUS > MICHAEL DANIELS wrote: >> Hi Connie and list, >> >> Quite a few things that were purchased in good faith that you would have >> your own >> personal references to aid research in various aspects of the hobby. Connie, Don't understand why they don't work on your new computer? - or have you gone from PC to a Mac (iPad or similar)? Regards Kevin (IT Engineer). They won't work on my new computer either. So annoying when they cost so > much. >
