This what we know: Australian family believed that he 'may' have changed his name or part of it - when he deserted HMS Inconstant in Sydney, Australia in 1881. For the rest of his life he was known as John Nicholas BURTON b. 14 June 1858 in Depjard(is there such a place?), Kent. On his Australian Death Certificate in 1929 his place of birth is listed as Kent and that his father was William. He worked on the land in Australia. His childrens names are: Gilbert Walter Blanche Matilda Lucy Maud Mabel Annie Phoebe Ada Emily Alfred Sylvester Any assistance would be appreciated. Thank you, Christine QLD
