Hi all Some information please on a memory from my own personal history. I used to visit my grandfather Hubert Stroud in Dover in my school holidays when I was young. He lived in Kings Ropewalk, his house has since been demolished to make way for the road to Folkestone. I remember being taken over the footbridge onto the beach, past the entrance to the tunnel under Shakespeare Cliff and west along the beach. At some point we had to climb an 'iron' ladder up a concrete structure to continue further. The ladder was no more than bits of round iron, formed like a large staple and sunk into the concrete. The question is what was this structure? Perhaps it was left over from the war, I was last there in the late 1950's. Any information will be much appreciated. A useless bit of info, my grandfather was 'on the railways' and every evening of my holiday he would take me up to the seat above the entrance to the tunnel and we would watch the Golden Arrow steam past. Thanks David
