    1. [KENT-ENG] William OXLEY, Rolvenden

    3. William OXLEY was christened in Rolvenden on Feb 8th 1804, arrived in Australia in 1839 with his wife Eliza nee SANTER and died as the result of injuries received while serving as a policeman in Mudgee NSW on May 19 1853 On September 29, 2012 Police Remembrance Day in Mudgee will quite possibly involve a graveside service at William's grave as well as a church service in Mudgee at which William's contribution to policing will be remembered along with the contributions of all police. The police officer co-ordinating this would love to have a photo or drawing of William as would many Australian descendants, my wife included. Its early days for photography but hopefully one might exist in Kent amongst family connections. William and his wife wrote a series of letters during their voyage to Australia and just after they arrived. These were posted home to William's brother James OXLEY, the schoolmaster in Rolvenden. The letters were retained by family in Kent until a member of the PARKER branch of the OXLEY tree recognised their significance and donated a copy to the NSW State Library in 2004. James OXLEY married Mercy RICHARDSON and their daughterAnn born about 1843 married William Francis PARKER so I assume the donor of the letters was part of that family. If anyone is able to assist in any way it would be really appreciated. David Central Coast NSW
