Since I am not the only descendant of my ancestors, I don't feel I can claim my research as being mine and mine only, ergo under my personal copyright. I simply copied the data found on records created by someone else into my genealogy management program. Neither did I take the photos of my ancestors with my camera, so they aren't "mine" either. Yes, I did a lot of work compiling and organizing the data, but I also borrowed from others who had already done research for the same people. Family History Research is a world of sharing common family/ancestral data. I appreciate finding data about my lines on a public website. (Of course, I never add it to my database without first confirming its accuracy.) And I publish my own research so others can benefit from my work, and I hope no one adds it to their data without confirming its accuracy. I am regularly contacted by distant relatives, whom I have never met before, regarding what I have posted. Many times they have found something useful in my data, and many times they have further data to share with me, or an alternative opinion to share with me. That helps us all get the most complete, most accurate data about our ancestral families into our files. Just my humble opinion. Admin said to stop this thread, so better do so.....but just wish to add I do own our family pics as my Mum is still living (90) and she gave them to me, have been in our family for over 100 years and I am very excited to share them with others, but not until I have finished all my research and know it is correct and that was what I was trying to do, suppose it is my own fault as not really up on the techs of family research sites. Thank you Admin and to those who offered opinions.
