Hi Listers Could anyone with access to Ancestry prison hulk records please look up James LONGDON/ LONGDEN who was sentenced to 14 years on the Justitia (off Woolwich?) circa 1834. Possibility he might be my 4 x gg and was a soldier, originally from the Yorkshire area aged about 60? Many thanks in advance Chris Longdon Sent from my iPod
Chris The only James LONGDEN I could find in the hulk records was a 22 year old in 1834 who was received from York. He was convicted in Sheffield on 22 Oct 1834 for stealing money and sentenced to 14 years. He was "disposed" of to Van Diemen's Land on 13 June 1835. The records say that he was on the "Fortitude". He was described as an "Idle drinker with a bad disposition. Living by Plunder. Connected with numerous Gang of Thieves. Twice imprisoned, once convicted".
