In 1841, she is in Greenwich, age 55 with a DOB of c1786. Lots of children with her, as well as a Catherine Lissney a few lines higher up. No sign of Thomas but she has a son named Thomas. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Judy Lester" <[email protected]> To: "A CLARKE" <[email protected]>, [email protected] Sent: Saturday, July 7, 2012 11:56:54 AM Subject: Re: [KENT-ENG] Lissney - Chislehurst Eveline, In 1851 Sarah is at the same address in Greenwich as in 1861, 4 Morden Street, where she died. 1851 census HO107/1586 folio 564 page 46 4, Morden Street, Greenwich Sarah Gowar Head Widow 78 Independent born Chislehurst Kent John Kingston Lodger Married 27 Engineer born Bridgwater Somerset Jane Kingston Wife Married 25 born Milverton Somerset (Ancestry have indexed Sarah as GREVER, but I believe it reads GOWAR or GOWER.) Incidentally, the 1818 marriage to Thomas GOWAR was at the church of St Margaret Pattens, in Eastcheap, not at St Dunstan in the East, which was in the process of being rebuilt in that year. As one of the witnesses to the 1818 marriage was Catherine LISSNEY, and Sarah named her own daughter Catherine, it seems likely that Sarah and Catherine were sisters. Perhaps they were the daughters of John LISSNEY and Mary who were baptised at Chislehurst in 1773 and 1777 respectively (as indexed by FamilySearch). As Sarah was recorded as a spinster at marriage in 1818, it's possible that her daughter Catherine born c1811 was illegitimate. Perhaps she was named after Sarah's own sister? You would need to seek these baptisms in the Chislehurst parish registers to confirm the relationships. NWKFHS have issued unindexed scans of the images on CD. http://www.nwkfhs.org.uk/pub_pr.htm Alternatively, you could order copies of the LDS films of the Chislehurst registers into a local Family History Centre, or ask Bromley Archives to search their microfilms for you (probably cheaper and quicker than asking Maidstone to do it). Email - [email protected] HTH Judy London, UK -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of A CLARKE I am trying to find out more about Sarah Lissney who was born in Chislehurst c 1772 (she was 89 in 1861 and 90 when she died in 1862). I have not found her on the 1851, but she was aged 55 in 1841 but that census is notorious for being inaccurate with ages. Sarah married Thomas Gowar in 1818 at St Dunstan in the East. Her will was probated in 1862 by oath of Catherine Lissney daughter. Again, we do not have Catherine's birth, but according to the censuses it was also at Chislehurst (again according to the censuses) and probably c1810 give or take a few years. In 1841 her age was 30, 1851 - 42, in 1861 she was 48 and in 1871 she was 64, so there is quite a bit of disparity there.
