Thank you Estelle and Anne for your responce to my query. Yes, this family is very hard to track down, and yes, there are several different ways to spell ROFFE. As far as I am aware,however, my particular line of ROFFEs were not sent out as convicts. Edward brought his family here as free settlers on the Argyle in 1839. That's not to say he didn't have a relation who was a convict, but I'm not aware of it. It is his father James, that I am looking for. The different ways of spelling the name is making a difficult search almost impossible. Also not knowing for sure just exactly where the family came from is building a rather large brick wall. I do feel, however, that they came from either Tonbridge or Tunbridge Wells area. I just can't find any James with the corresponding dates. Jenny Sharp
