The Kent Family History Society sells CDs of Parish registrations. Go to their website to see if they have anything for Sevenoaks. ----- Original Message ----- From: [email protected] To: [email protected] Sent: Saturday, April 7, 2012 8:52:43 PM Subject: [KENT-ENG] Mary Saltmarsh - Sevenoaks Kent Greetings from Canada. This is my first post to the Kent list. Mary Saltmarsh, widow, age 80, born Seven Oaks, Kent is in the 1871 Census at Woodside Green, Great Hallingbury, Essex. In the 1861 Census she is age 69, in Great Hallingbury, born "Kent, 7 Oaks" and is a "coachman's wife" living with granddaughter Jane Cordwell, age 16, born London, Paddington. I believe she was the wife of William Saltmarsh, coachman/male servant, born, but not baptized in Leicester, Leicestershire, who turns up on the 1851 and 1861 Censuses at Theydon Garnon, Essex. Have exhausted searching for this couple in Essex. They apparently had nine children born and baptized at St Giles, Great Hallingbury, Essex between 1818 and 1835. Some of the baptisms have Mary, others, Sarah, as the mother, and others have Mary crossed out with Sarah overwritten. William is sometimes a coachman, servant, labourer. He died 25 Sep 1867, Bishops Stortford. My question is: What is the best way of researching marriages in Sevenoaks, Kent for Mary (maiden name unknown) and William Saltmarsh, around 1815 or so? I see that there is a Northwest Kent Family History Society which would include Sevenoaks, but it requires a membership fee before any searching can be done. Before committing further resources, any advice would be appreciated. Thank you!
