Hi All, Wondering if any of you have anything further on any twig of my HOWLAND family? Hilda Florence GRAY is my grandmother and I have her line, but I am interested in filling in any other detail that I can and to take the the line further back if I can. HOWLAND 1. Alfred HOWLAND(born circa 1829) married on 5th May 1850 in the Parish Church of Chatham, Charlotte JACKSON(father James Jackson- carpenter) (witnesses James Jackson& Mary Marsh) (note : in the marriage certificate Alfred gives Shoemaker as his profession, Charlotteis listed as being a minor at the time of marriage. Both give High Street, Chatham as the place of residence)(Cordwainer & Railway servant, 1881 census shows Alfred as a signalman living in Hernehill and that he has a second wife and children) children 1.1.1. Harriet HOWLAND(b. 7 November 1852, in Milton, Sittingbourne) Next Generation 1.1.1. Harriet HOWLAND(born 7th November 1852, in Milton, Sittingbourne) married 15th April 1877 in St. Mary's parish church of Teynham, James GRAY(born in Crayford, Kent the 4th August 1855, was christened in East Wickham the 23rd September 1855) (Horse Keeper in Brickfield) (witnesses at the wedding John Gray& Sarah Gray) (James gave his profession as a Labourer) 1881 census shows James and Harriet Gray living at Dearton St. Teynham. By 1901 census they are registered at Higham.  children 1.1.1.1. Alfred John GRAY(born 1877 Teynham baptised  St Mary's Teynham  8th October 1877) believed to have emigrated to Canada. In 1901 census listed as a navy man in the Royal Marine 1.1.1.2. Amelia Adelaide GRAY(born 1879 Teynham baptised  St Mary's Teynham  1st June 1879) 1.1.1.3. Percival Ethelbert GRAY(born 10th July 1881 and baptised St Mary's Teynham on 2nd October 1881. died in All Saints Hospital Chatham the 15 April 1941)  Listed as a waggoner in 1901 census * 1.1.1.4.
