Hello List Could SKS tell me if the CD's from Plaxtol Local History Group give the parent's of the bride and groom. The reason I ask is that I am seeking someone who I can find no birth for. The information I have is the marriage 25 Dec 1829 in Plaxtol Church, Phoebe Venison married George Knight , M167161, this information is from the LDS site. Phoebe Knight is on the 1841 census, she had a daughter Mary Anne in June 1841. Phoebe died in the Mar 1/4 1844. On the 1851 census Living in the George Knight household is a Sarah Venison aged 47, relationship ,Sister in Law . Sarah has a son Alfred Venison with her aged 13. Looking for Sarah Venison in 1841 , I find Sarah Venison aged 37 and Alfred Venison aged 3 in the Household of Thomas Venison aged 81 also in the household is James Venison aged 47. I believe Thomas Venison to be the Thomas Venison who Married Ann Crowhurst on the 23rd July 1787 in Meopham, M135002. If anyone has another Thomas Venison in this time Period please let me know. I have never found a birth for Sarah , and as she was Sister in Law she would be a sister to Phoebe . James I can find born to Thomas Venison and Ann also Thomas and Ann had a daughter Phillis. I hope anyone who has a different idea on this family will comment online so it can be discussed. Thank you in Advance Bob
Hi Bob A couple of points: You won't find parents' names in an 1829 marriage register (in fact, you won't find mothers' names even now). If the marriage was by licence rather than bans AND if the bride (and/or groom) was under age, the licence allegation *should* say who gave consent, which would normally be the father but could be the mother (or an uncle or whatever) if the father was dead. I suggest hiring in the film of the register from your nearest LDS centre. "Sister in law" was a term used more loosely then than now, but it is probable that she was Phoebe's sister, as she appears to have been born a VENISON (she is unmarried in 1851).
