Hi Paul It's a massive leap to deduce adoption or a name change from your current failure to locate a baptism, let alone the lack of a DNA match with Ancestry subscribers called Edgar who have taken a similar test (which must be a tiny fraction of the possible descendants). Can you give us a list of the parishes whose registers you have checked so far? You may have to face the possibility that John was not baptised, either at birth or later. Do Canadian marriage records not mention fathers' names?
