    3. Paul if you had got the certificate of marriage for John EDGAR in 1828 in Quebec you would know who he married and also who his father was. If his father is not mentioned then as you say he married more than once so get those then. If you go to this web site you can pay a mimimum of $7.99 to look at ten records. You will then know who the father of John EDGAR is if his father is listed on the 1828 certificate of marriage. Your Folks.com http://www.mesaieux.com/defaultAn.asp I am surprised you have not already done this and if you thought he was born in Chatham, Kent, England circa 1800 have you actually looked in the parish records on line http://cityark.medway.gov.uk/query/results/?Mode=Search&PathList=%2FZ4a_Medw ay_Ancestors%2F%0A&SearchWords=&DateList= this is the link for that site he is not in Chatham I can tell you that much but you dont tell us how you know he was born there. Canadian Census maybe which are also on line. Oh one of the two John EDGAR's in the census's in Canada born circ 1800 the one from England is Roman Catholic so he wont be in Church of England Parish Records in Chatham will he The other John EDGAR is born in Ireland and there are others My recommendation to you is for you to obtain records for the right family and get all / and right marriages and census records for the two John EDGARS John DAY South Australia -----Original Message----- From: kent-eng-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:kent-eng-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Paul Edgar Sent: Friday, 6 September 2013 6:29 AM To: kent-eng@rootsweb.com Subject: [KENT-ENG] Looking for local assistance Hi All, One of my Granfathers, John Edgar B around 1800 in Chatham, Kent England. I have searched and searched online for any information on his exact birth or christening. Depending on which Canadian record I look at, I gather sometime between 1799 and 1801. He was married around 1828 in Quebec City Canada and I have found that record, which means he immigrated sometime before then. His occupation was listed as mariner at the time he was married, but I haven't found any records on immigration either. He was married twice after that, as a widower each time. Lastly, I have done a DNA test on the male side, and am not a match to any known Edgars on Ancestry. Was he adopted, was his dad, did the name change from some other name, etc. Anyway if anyone has a few minutes and records they could look thru for that time, I would be very grateful. Thanks, Paul Edgar Texas USA ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to KENT-ENG-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

    3. I don't have a certificate of marriage per-se, but an entry in a church book I was mistaken or the record is not the right one but supposedly arrived NY in September 17 1828 on the John Jay. John Edgar a native of Chatham in England mariner, bachelor was married to Mary Arken of the City of Quebec. native of Ireland on 3 November, 1828 Mariage in June 14 1840 was to Charlotte Corneil spinster and he was listed as being the widower of Mary Arken and listed his ag as 39 (born 1801) Basically the same for his marriage to Edith Edelston which the church record is in French. He burial information says he was 72 in 1869(born 1799) and his wife Edith Edelston is his widow. In none of these is any other family mentioned. So arrived sometime in Canada before 1828, married again in 1840, again in So my search of church records on ancestry.com did not reveal any john edgar born 1798-1802 in Kent except for this one, but did not seem to pan out... London, England, Baptisms, Marriages and Burials, 1538-1812 <http://www.ancestry.com/search/db.aspx?dbid=1624&enc=1> Thanks for the extra hints will continue my search.
