Hi Paul I agree that you shouldn't be concerned with a lack of DNA connection with other Edgars. Ancestry's DNA database is still fairly new. Our family has done a Y DNA test with Family Tree DNA which has a large database of results and we haven't found a single match with our family name and we have traced our ancestors back to 1700. About John Edgar's immigration to Canada. If you haven't tried the Library and Archives Canada site (http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/genealogy/index-e.html) it might be worth giving it a look. It has some ships records, in some cases with passenger lists. Likewise the Province of Quebec Library and Archives might have some records. Most of this site (http://www.banq.qc.ca/accueil/index.html?language_id=1) is in French. Jane Ryder Ottawa, Canada
