I'm wondering if someone might be able to decipher an abbreviation for me on a death certificate? The death occurred at Fordcombe Lane, Penshurst R.S.O. in 1889. I'm not sure whether it is R.S.O. or R.S.D. I was thinking perhaps it stands for Resident Surgeon's Office or something similar. But maybe it was some sort of medical facility or hospital. The death was certified by W.E.L. Batty M.R.C.S. (Member Royal College of Surgeons). I've located a William Batty, surgeon who was living in Oak Villas, Langton Green in 1891 with his wife, Ellie. Perhaps it was his surgery? Any ideas or thoughts would be appreciated.
Dear Cathryn I could be terribly wrong on this, but I have seen similar abbreviations, the RD usually meaning Rural District, and in this case I think it might actually stand for Penshurst Rural Sewage District ! Apologies if I have got it all wrong.
