Further to previous replies, surely Deptford became part of London in 1889? This is when the county of London was formed. Initially Deptford was part of the Metropolitan Board of Works ('Greenwich District') 1889-1900. Then in 1900 the metropolitan boroughs were formed. At that point Deptford St Nicholas became part of Greenwich borough while St Paul formed 'Deptford Metropolitan Borough'. In 1965 (establishment of Greater London), Deptford MB became part of Lewisham Borough, while Greenwich MB (including Deptford St Nicholas) became part of Greenwich London Borough. So the historical parish remains split between two London boroughs. Source: F. Youngs, 'Local Administrative Units' (1979). Yes, part of Deptford originally extended into Surrey.
