Hello Joan, It might be John Bertha, John and Rose in Uckfield workhouse though John does seem a lot older than Bertha However I have found in the past Workhouse records are not always accurate and inmates often give false information It does seem a coincidence. I do not know if it is the right John in prison in Canterbury in 1901. There are three people on Genes Reunited who have Bertha Welham born 1867 in Ipswich on their tree and one with Rose Sheppey on their tree. . It is worth investigating Yvonne
