Henry SILLETT consistently records his birthplace as Dover on census records but I have not traced a baptism record. Some years ago, a kind lady looked at St James, St Mary and St Lawrence records between 1800 –1810 without success. I have found a Sarah SILLETT (sister?) buried 18 May 1808 at Dover but the parish is not given on the Familysearch website. Henry is my 3 x gt grandfather and his 2 siblings born before 1806 and the 8 born after this date were all bapt. in Alburgh, Norfolk so this Kent connection is a bit of a mystery. If anyone can suggest other parishes in and around Dover and has easy access to any of them and could have a look, I would be most appreciative. It goes without saying that I would be pleased to help out SILLETT researchers should there be any interest. Brian Sillett (in Lancashire)
Hi Brian Sarah SILLETT buried 18 May 1808 at St Mary the Virgin, Dover - No age given. Have checked Dover and surrounding villages but no sign of a baptism for Henry SILLETT during that period. However, I might have a clue for you. I have seen other families with children born in both Alburgh (Norfolk) and Dover (Kent), and invariably the head of the household has been employed in the Coastguard service. I don't know if you have pursued this line. There is a guide http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/records/research-guides/coastguard.htm All the best Dave Dixon BA (hons) - Economic & Social History - University of Kent - Canterbury 1997 www.fadedgenes.co.uk On 10 November 2013 10:11, Brian Sillett <brian.sillett010@btinternet.com>wrote: > Henry SILLETT consistently records his birthplace as Dover on census > records but I have not traced a baptism record.
