Hi Frances many thanks for your help, the only thing that concerns me is Sussex maybe to far but i'm not sure, the genealogist who just checked my wilsons said I was wrong when I put Deptford as a baptism who was born in Charing he seems to think Thomas father of Thomas 1740 would be Cranbrook he's very expensive so I can't do any more with him , but I guess they could have moved with farming best wishes june On Fri, Nov 1, 2013 at 11:22 PM, Frances Lee <frances@mayleecat.com> wrote: > Hi June > > I looked on Ancestry for you! > > They have Thomas Wilson b.1740 Cranbrook, Kent married to Margaret Bourne. > His parents were another Thomas Wilson b. 30/8/1719 East Guildeford, Sussex > d.1770 Peasmarsh. Hi June People did stay in one area in some families but in others they moved around a fair bit! There are half a dozen people on Ancestry with your Wilsons in their tree and this is the info they have! Is there a Wilson one name studies group I wonder? Have you checked online? I found one for my Bogg/Boggs family which was very useful! Also check Rootsweb! > There are half a dozen people on Ancestry with your Wilsons in their tree and > this is the info they have! It is very dangerous to make the (common, but unfortunate) assumption that facts are "proved" because they appear in online trees and that the more trees the same "fact" appears on the more likely it is to be true! Sad to say, there are thousands of subscribers to Ancestry who believe that the right way to build a family tree is to click away on suggested "matches" and attach chunks of lineage without any independent research or checks on sourcing. In next to no time, one person's guesswork spreads like wildfire, with novices assuming that "it must be true because lots of other people have it in their tree". Six trees showing the same information does *not* mean that six people have done proper research and come to the same conclusion. Caroline
What you need to understand is that sometimes a generation or two or one line became dissenters and no matter how hard you look or where you look you will not find a baptism for the child or children so around 1650 you have the civil wars and upset in non clergy looking after parish records which explains lots of missing records prior to the 1680's then in 1680s the dissenters got very active right up to the 1720's when many families rejoined the C of E -----Original Message----- From: kent-eng-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:kent-eng-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of June Wilson Sent: Saturday, 2 November 2013 10:31 PM To: kent-eng@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [KENT-ENG] Cranbrook-Charing -little chart wilsons Hi Frances many thanks for your help, the only thing that concerns me is Sussex maybe to far but i'm not sure, the genealogist who just checked my wilsons said I was wrong when I put Deptford as a baptism who was born in Charing he seems to think Thomas father of Thomas 1740 would be Cranbrook he's very expensive so I can't do any more with him , but I guess they could have moved with farming best wishes june On Fri, Nov 1, 2013 at 11:22 PM, Frances Lee <frances@mayleecat.com> wrote: > Hi June > > I looked on Ancestry for you! > > They have Thomas Wilson b.1740 Cranbrook, Kent married to Margaret Bourne. > His parents were another Thomas Wilson b. 30/8/1719 East Guildeford, Sussex > d.1770 Peasmarsh.
