    3. Hi Norma Have you investigated the marriage of Alice Jane BURROWS, Mar Qtr. 1907 in Poplar district. Poplar covered Bromley. Sue -----Original Message----- From: kent-eng-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:kent-eng-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Norma Brown Sent: 17 December 2013 02:22 To: kent-eng@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [KENT-ENG] Bring them home for Christmas--- Alice Maud BURROWS It took some time to track this person down. Although Miss Alice Burrows, no age, was listed on the UK Outward Bound Passengers list for the Victorian, May 1907, she was not listed in a corresponding in-coming Canadian Passenger List on Ancestry.com. So off to Archives Canada where the passenger manifest for the Victorian's arrival in Montreal/Quebec on 17 May 1907 is available to read on-line. The ship's manifest, 45 pages, is reasonably legible and on page 43 I found Alice Burrows, adult, returning to Canada and the complete line was crossed out. Looks like Alice did not sail at that time. Her ticket number in both the Outward Bound listing and in the manifest when the ship arrived in Montreal/Quebec was identical. In both lists Alice was sailing in the Saloon class. Our Alice would not have been able to afford that class of travel. And it would be quite a surprise to see her using the title "Miss". Also at that time in 1907 Alice's 2 daughters, half-sisters, were wards of the Barnardo Homes. I imagine Barnardo's would not have been very happy to have Alice sailing off to Canada while they were still responsible for the care of her 2 daughters. But thanks for the suggestion.
