Hello Caroline, Would the marriage certificate be likely to show any parentage of Eleanor? Hi Estelle Yes. The marriage certificate should give her father's name and occupation. I say "should" because occasionally one just sees "deceased" under the father's details if he was dead at the time of the marriage (or if it was convenient to say he was), although, in theory, these details should be there, regardless of whether he was dead or alive. If you are going to buy the certificate, make sure you do so direct from the GRO (www.gro.gov.uk). The statutory fee is £9.25 including worldwide postage. Third parties will charge you well over the odds and take longer to get the certificate to you. Best wishes from a windy and wet Oxford Caroline Sent from my iPad > On 31 Dec 2013, at 12:04, Estelle Daniels <stelly__57@hotmail.com> wrote: > > Hello Caroline, > Would the marriage certificate be likely to show any parentage of Eleanor? > Regards Estelle > (sweltering in rural Australia where it was 43 deg C today) > >> From: caroline.bradford@btinternet.com >> Date: Tue, 31 Dec 2013 09:20:44 +0000 >> To: kent-eng@rootsweb.com >> Subject: Re: [KENT-ENG] Looking for SMITH & NOEL marriage (Eleanor & Napoleon) pls >> >> Thanks, Peter, whoops! >> >> It seems highly likely this was not a CofE marriage, though it could have been at St Giles, whose registers are not complete in the Ancestry/LMA collection.
