    1. [KENT-ENG] Harriett Ann COOK & Richard HOARE on 1861 census
    2. Johannes & Daphne-Anne Freeke
    3. Richard HOARE ( born circa 1836) and Harriet Ann COOK ( born circa 1831) had two illegitimate children, both born at the Union Work House in Bridge. Stephen Frederick COOK was born 23-July-1853, Richard was acknowledged as father and paid maintenance. William Richard Hoare COOK was born 20-September-1857. No bastardy order found. At the time of the 1861 census Stephen Frederick COOK was recorded as grandson at the home of his mother's parents, Stephen and Mary COOK (f.30, p.21, sched.107, Bolls Hill). William Richard Hoare COOK was recorded as a grandson at the home of his father's parents, Richard and Elizabeth HOARE ( f.27, p.17, sched. 85, Shalmford Street). I have not found the whereabouts of Harriet Ann COOK and Richard HOARE on census night. I do not have a subscription to either ancestry so can only see the free information. I have found a number of women named Harriet COOK with ages varying from 1816 to 1833, all being born and living at a city ( unnamed) in Kent. I would be very interested to know if this is Chartham where the Harriet Ann COOK in question was born and raised. If anyone has time to check this and see who else was in the household, I would be most grateful. Thank you Daphne in the Greta Valley, North Canterbury, New Zealand

    3. Daphne Why not do a pay as you go on ancestry Daphne - it will probably cost you a "tenna" instead of a years subscription. If you havnt got a subscription and are one that refuses to pay for records go to your local library for free or the Family history Society and look at it for free once you join the society John H Day South Australia -----Original Message----- From: kent-eng-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:kent-eng-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Johannes & Daphne-Anne Freeke Sent: Friday, 10 January 2014 5:20 AM To: KENT-ENG@rootsweb.com Subject: [KENT-ENG] Harriett Ann COOK & Richard HOARE on 1861 census Richard HOARE ( born circa 1836) and Harriet Ann COOK ( born circa 1831) had two illegitimate children, both born at the Union Work House in Bridge. 3. I would like to acknowledge the kindness of Heather in finding useful information regarding Harriet and Richard. Living in an area where the thin tentacles of broadband do not yet reach (can anyone even remember what it was like on a dial up internet connection?), living in a piece of paradise 100 kilometers away from a library with free search facilities, and having some mobility issues, make me very grateful for the kindness of others. Thank you Heather. Daphne >
