    3. Roger You need the Gravesend papers! Have you tried putting "British Library Newspapers" into your search engine? They have put a lot of them online but if the one you need isn't there you can email them and ask them to do a search for you. Send them as much information as possible such as date of death, address, names of possible papers etc. They will search the papers for you for up to two weeks past his death date. I had this done on my great grandfather John Bogg when I found from his death cert that he had committed suicide by jumping into the Thames from the Free Woolwich Ferry. British Library Newspapers searched for and found two notices for me in local Woolwich papers. The first was just a footnote of a couple of sentences. The second was more in depth describing an interview between a reporter and John's widow my great grandmother. It was very strange reading the actual words that my great grandmother had spoken. It was so interesting I almost wished I had another one but that wouldn't be kind to my ancestors! They sent me a disclaimer to sign for publishing rights and then they not only sent me the column but the entire pages of each of the broadsheets rolled up into a cardboard tube. It think it cost me £12 i.e. £6 for each but it was a few years ago so it could well be more now! Good Luck Best wishes Frances Lee On 22 January 2014 10:50, Roger M EVANS <r.evans441@btinternet.com> wrote: > Dear Listers, > > > > I have very recently learned that Frank Charles Bowen, my 5 times removed > cousin, died 26th January 1957 in Gravesend Hospital having "lived" at 10, > New Road, Gravesend. > > > > He had served as a Captain in the RN during the 1st World War initially in > the Dardanelles but in 1916 transferred to Naval Intelligence, Following > the > War he became a noted author on maritime issues. > > > > I have been unable to find an on-line source for any obituary. > > > > Would any lister be able to suggest a likely location for my enquiries > > > > Regards > > > > Roger M Evans > > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > KENT-ENG-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the > quotes in the subject and the body of the message > -- --- Regards Frances Lee
