Can anyone help me find Mary Bogg born in Plumstead, Woolwich, Kent in 1876. Daughter of John Bogg and Mary Bogg nee McCarthy. I wasn't even aware of her existence in the family because she didn't appear on the 1881 census with her father and three brothers because her mother had died of T.B. whilst she was still a baby and it wasn't until I started researching her mother's siblings that I found there was another child! I found Mary Bogg niece on the 1881 census living with her mother's sister Ellen and her husband. Ellen was born McCarthy but married to Robert Field! Mary is listed as Mary Bogg niece aged 5! So then I looked for her on the 1891 census and found her still living with her uncle and aunt age 15 but now called Mary Field niece! At first I though she had changed her name but then found that census taker had got a lot wrong! he said said that Robert's wife was Margaret Field but I think she is either Ellen's other sister born in 1849 (Census says 1851) or she is her husband's sister. So what happened to Mary Bogg after 1891? Ellen seems to have died because I found Robert Field living in lodgings as a widower on the 1911 census but can't find Ellen or Mary on any more censuses! I'm also having difficulty finding their deaths! Some years ago someone sent me a photo of the grave of Mary's eldest brother John Edward Bogg in Plumstead.I'm now having trouble reading the details but it does say also 'Beloved Uncle Robert Field'! I remember checking who had arranged the burial and the cemetery record said Mary Bogg. John Edward Bogg never married and lived in lodgings. I have found him on every census in Plumstead up to 1911. So where was Mary living after 1891? And why weren't Ellen and Robert buried in the same grave? Where were Ellen and Mary buried? Best wishes Frances Lee
Frances, FreeBMD shows registration of a birth for a Mary BOGG, September quarter 1875 at Woolwich. According to my map, Plumstead and Woolwich are adjoining, so perhaps this one is worth considering? I could see no likely other Mary B*GG birth registered in Kent 1875-1877. Ellen appears to have died in 1898. There is a burial on 8 January 1898 at St Margaret's Plumstead of an Ellen Field, age 54 and giving her address as 10a Elizabeth St, N. Woolwich. That may explain her absence on later censuses.
