    3. Hi   I hope that someone will be able to help me.    I am trying to find the birth or marriage of John GowAr/GowEr who lived at Birling.   In his will dated 1807 John states he was John GowAr a Yeoman of Barnwell in the Parish of Birling.   I have found his burial in the Birling register and he was buried in the name GowEr.    I have also found most of his children at Birling Thomas, Elizabeth, Frances, Samuel, Richard, Raydin in the parish register and they were baptised as GowEr.    In most of the censuses, his children were called GowAR, so we assume that it was just the priest at Birling who thought their name should be spelt with an E.   We believe his son Thomas was the eldest as he was given the farm, as he was baptised in 1774, we have assumed that John would have married his wife Elizabeth ??? sometime around 1772 give or take a couple of years.   John would have been born c1740 as he was 67 when he died.     If anyone is able to help it would be greatly appreciated.   Regards   Eveline
