    3. Robyn, before you splash out on FMP credits or a subscription, I suggest you read the notes regarding the gradual release of this database on FMP. The current batch does not cover the possible date of your veteran who it seems retired with an army pension by the time of the 1851 census. The dates ranges shown refer to when the pension was granted and not when he possibly died. So if he was born in 1785, possibly joined up around aged 18 and served the 12 years to receive a pension you should be looking for the period of around 1815-1820 give or take a few years.
