Hi Eveline, A John GOWEN married an Elizabeth SUMMERS on January 5, 1773 at Birling. This reference is in the IGI ( Batch No. M130932). I checked Gowen and Gowan because an English written "r" can easily be transcribed as an "n", particularly if the transcription is done by a North American. Not a bad thing to keep in mind when you hit dead ends. It may not be your man, but I think it's a possibility. Good luck with your hunt, Jan Isobel
