Good day, I am fairly new at this, and was lucky enough to recently find who I believe to be my G-G-Grandfather, Colin McKenzie, born 1817 in Jemernep, Scotland. I have tried all of the Scotland town, village, etc., name lists I could find, as well as searching Google, but cannot find anything about Jemernep, Scotland. It would seem that it doesn't exist! This information was obtained directly from the 1861 England Census, and I'd like to get some confirming documentation about Colin McKenzie, but if Jemernep doesn't exist...then what? Could it possibly just "no longer exist", but did back in the early 1800s? Could it be named something else now? Where could I investigate this possibility? Or could it be a mis-spelling of another location in Scotland? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Hi John, You could try searching the website - Scotland's People - and, if no luck, try contacting them direct to ask if they can help - http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/content/help/index.aspx?r=551 I couldn't find anything at Scottish Archives for the placename, so its probably a transcription error. The IGI has baptisms for Colin McKENZIE in 1817 at Barvas, Stornaway, Polmont and Kilmorack. 1818 has the name in Barony, Nairn, Knockbain and Urray.
